55 Mobile Phones Snatched from Trader Near Red Zone in Karachi

Karachi police face mounting scrutiny following a brazen hardware heist. Yesterday, armed robbers snatched mobile phones worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. They targeted a trader right near the city’s high-security Red Zone.

Specifically, five muggers riding three motorcycles intercepted the merchant inside the mobile market. Consequently, they made off with 55 expensive mobile phones. These high-end devices carry an immense financial value. Furthermore, the criminals snatched two cartons and a bag containing the hardware before fleeing the scene.

Law Enforcement Response to Snatched Mobile Phones

Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan immediately took strict notice of the brazen robbery. He sought a detailed report from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South. Moreover, he ordered the DIG to ensure the prompt arrest of the culprits. He strictly directed law enforcement to utilize all available resources to recover the snatched valuables.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of heavily surging street crime. Earlier, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) released disturbing statistics for the month of May. A total of 4,671 criminal incidents happened across the metropolis in just one month.

Street criminals ruthlessly target tech assets and citizens. In May alone, robbers snatched 1,860 mobile phones at gunpoint across the city. Similarly, two-wheelers remain a primary target. Criminals snatched 445 motorcycles at gunpoint and stole a staggering 2,240 bikes over the course of the month.

Automobile theft also persists. Muggers snatched 20 vehicles at gunpoint and stole another 106 from various areas. Additionally, the city recorded one bank robbery and 10 separate incidents of extortion.

More tragically, 56 people lost their lives in various firing and violent incidents last month. On a positive note, officials reported no cases of kidnapping for ransom.

Therefore, these deeply unsettling figures trigger calls for immediate, renewed efforts from law enforcement. Citizens actively demand increased police patrolling. They expect stricter security measures across Karachi’s streets to contain, if not entirely eradicate, this surging crime wave.
