HONOR Robot Phone Showcases Cinematic Video Capabilities at Shanghai International Film Festival

HONOR has given another look at its upcoming Honor Robot Phone, using the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) to demonstrate what could become one of the most unusual smartphone camera systems to reach the market this year.
As the official mobile photography and videography partner of SIFF, HONOR showed the first cinematic video filmed with the Robot Phone. The video, created by ELLEMEN for the festival’s jury members, demonstrated the phone’s ability to capture smooth handheld footage while maintaining image quality.

Unlike most smartphones that rely heavily on electronic image stabilization, the Robot Phone uses a built-in physical gimbal system. This approach reduces the amount of digital cropping required to stabilize footage, helping maintain the original frame and image detail.

HONOR Robot Phone: Mechanical Gimbal Takes Center Stage

The camera system is built around what HONOR describes as the industry’s smallest titanium alloy gimbal. Powered by miniature motors, the mechanism can extend and retract from the phone’s body while providing stabilization during video recording.

Besides reducing camera shake, the system uses AI to track and follow moving subjects automatically. By combining hardware stabilization with software features, the Robot Phone aims to make it easier to record smooth, cinematic-looking videos without needing extra equipment.

The device was first shown publicly during Cannes China Night, where HONOR confirmed that it is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2026.

First Product From the HONOR-ARRI Collaboration

Another notable aspect of the Robot Phone is its connection to HONOR’s partnership with ARRI, the German company known for producing professional cinema cameras used throughout the film industry.

The Robot Phone is the first device made through HONOR’s partnership with ARRI. Earlier announcements said the two companies are working on new color tools and support for ARRI’s LUTs. This could make video editing easier and give creators more options.
