Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated with firearms. Some of my earliest memories involve hunting trips with my grandpa, who was an avid hunter. Long before I was a teenager, he would take me into the woods and teach me about firearm safety, marksmanship, and respect for the outdoors. When I visited his house, we often spent afternoons setting up targets and shooting them with a pellet rifle.
That passion never went away. Today I still enjoy collecting firearms, spending time at the range, hunting, and more recently, building my own rifles.
My latest project was an AR15 pistol that I assembled from individual components in my basement. I spent a lot of time researching parts and selecting quality components because I wanted this build to last. First Impressions
When the case arrived, I immediately noticed how solid it felt.

The case measures just over 39 inches long and weighs about 10.5 pounds. While it is not lightweight, the extra weight comes from the sturdy construction and protective design.
The size turned out to be perfect for my needs. My AR15 pistol with a collapsible brace fit comfortably inside with plenty of room left over. I also tested it with a standard AR15 featuring a 16 inch barrel and had no issues fitting it inside.
What impressed me most was the extra storage space. Even after placing a rifle inside, I still had room for adding magazines, spare parts, tools, hearing protection, and even an additional upper receiver if I wanted to.

One of my favorite features of this case is the customizable foam interior.
Inside the lid, there is a layer of protective foam. The bottom section contains two thicker foam layers along with a thin base layer underneath.
The foam uses a pick and pluck design. Small squares are already cut into the foam, making it easy to create a custom fit without using a knife.
I simply outlined my firearm and started removing foam squares by hand. The entire process took less than ten minutes.
The finished result looked surprisingly clean and professional. My AR15 fit securely inside the custom recess with very little movement. The foam provides excellent cushioning while keeping everything organized.

The case features a heavy duty polymer construction that feels extremely durable. The shell resists flexing, and the overall design inspires confidence when transporting expensive firearms and optics.
The lid secures with six large latches that lock tightly into place. Once closed, everything feels secure and protected.
I have stacked gear on top of the case in my garage and in my truck without worrying about crushing or damaging the contents inside. The rigid construction handles the weight without any noticeable flex.

Waterproof and Travel Ready
Another major advantage of this case is its IP67 rating.
The lid uses a full O ring gasket that seals out dust, dirt, and moisture. An IP67 rating means the case is completely protected from dust and can withstand temporary immersion in water up to one meter deep for thirty minutes.
While I do not plan on dropping my rifle case into a lake, I appreciate knowing that heavy rain, muddy hunting conditions, and accidental exposure to water should not be a problem.
The case also includes a pressure equalization valve. This allows air pressure inside the case to adjust automatically during elevation changes or air travel.
For travelers, the case includes two TSA compatible locking points. You will need to provide your own locks, but the case is ready for secure transport.

Despite its rugged construction, the GRITR case remains easy to move around.
The case includes two carrying handles. One sits on the side for traditional carrying while the other sits near the end of the case.
A set of rubber tread wheels sits on the opposite end, allowing the case to roll smoothly behind you.
I found myself using the wheels almost all the time. Between the weight of the case, firearm, magazines, and accessories, rolling it is simply more convenient than carrying it.
The wheels roll smoothly across concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other common surfaces. Anyone who regularly transports firearms to the range will appreciate this feature.
How It Compares to More Expensive Cases
Many shooters immediately compare hard cases to premium brands like Pelican and Nanuk.
While those companies have excellent reputations, their cases often cost significantly more.
After spending time with the GRITR case, I feel like it delivers most of the features that shooters actually need. It offers waterproof protection, dust resistance, customizable foam, pressure equalization, locking points, wheels, and a rugged shell.
The premium brands may offer some refinements in hardware and fit and finish, but for many gun owners, the GRITR provides a similar level of practical protection at a more affordable price.
One Thing I Would Change
No product is perfect, and there is one feature I would like to see improved.
Because of the wheel design, the case cannot stand upright on its own. When storing it vertically, I have to lean it against a wall or another object to keep it from tipping over.
This is not a major issue during transportation, but it would be nice if the bottom included small molded feet or supports that allowed the case to stand independently. For people who store multiple cases in a safe room, garage, or gun room, that feature would make organization easier.

It provides the level of protection I wanted for my custom AR15 build while offering features that make transportation and storage easy. The rugged construction, waterproof design, customizable foam, and rolling wheels make it feel like a premium product without the premium price tag.
