Samsung partners with a clinical research firm and will provide health data from its wearable devices

Samsung and Alcedis are forming a partnership to bridge together health data from wearable devices and clinical research. Of course, Samsung will provide the health data. At the same time, Alcedis, as a digital-first clinical research organization, will collect, analyze and translate biometrics data into meaningful evidence that can later be used for pharmaceutical or other clinical research.

It does make sense, to some extent, since wearable devices are widespread among the population and are a cost-effective way to collect continuous real-world health data. The problem is that not many can translate the wearable data into clinically meaningful evidence, and this is where Alcedis comes into play.

The two companies will collect clinically validated measurements from bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and electrodermal activity (EDA). The devices are also capable of collecting data for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and Atrial Fibrillation (AFib).
