Next up in our “Ask Drone Girl” series is about DJI’s Hasselblad camera offering — that’s the DJI Mavic 4 Pro. If you have a question for Drone Girl, contact her here.
I need your advice on buying a DJI drone: the Mavic 4 Pro Combo or DJI 5 Pro Combo? I’m a retired professional photographer and always used Hasselblad cameras. What do you think is the best choice between the two? There is a difference in warranty, but not sure that means much to me. I also would like to buy a not-so-over-the-top drone for my adult daughter from DJI!
Al, it is an absolute honor to connect with a fellow Hasselblad fan! Because you come from a worldwide photography background, you are going to look closely at sensor size, dynamic range, and color science.

For the Pro: Clearing up the DJI Mavic 4 Pro vs. “Mavic 5 Pro” confusion
To address the naming, if you are looking at the top-tier consumer flagship on the market right now, it is the DJI Mavic 4 Pro.
If you are seeing listings or rumors comparing it to a “DJI 5 Pro,” you might be thinking of speculative future release leaks, or perhaps comparing it to the lightweight DJI Mini 5 Pro rumors. As it stands today, there is no Mavic 5 Pro on the market, meaning the Mavic 4 Pro is the heavyweight champion you want.
For a photographer who spent their career shooting on Hasselblad glass, this drone is an absolute dream. It features a spectacular 100MP Hasselblad main camera with a massive 4/3 CMOS sensor. Best of all, it utilizes the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS). The color grading right out of the camera is incredibly natural and accurate, meaning it will feel instantly familiar to your professional eye when you pull files into post-processing.

What about the warranty?
You mentioned noticing some warranty differences across listings. For a high-end drone, standard manufacturer warranties only cover internal factory defects—not user error. Instead of stressing over retail warranties, make sure to add DJI Care Refresh to your cart.
DJI Care Refresh is an accidental damage plan. If you clip a tree branch or experience a rough landing, DJI will replace the entire aircraft for a small, flat fee, no questions asked. For a premium investment like the Mavic 4 Pro, it provides immense peace of mind.
For your daughter: High quality without being “over-the-top”
For an adult daughter getting into the hobby, the goal is to give her a drone that captures gorgeous imagery but bypasses the headache of strict regulatory compliance and complex flight controls. I highly recommend looking at the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
The biggest selling point here is its weight. Because it comes in at under 249 grams, it bypasses the strictest FAA registration regulations required for heavier recreational aircraft. She can simply charge up the battery and fly largely right out of the box.
Features I love include:
- Omnidirectional Obstacle Avoidance: This system tracks obstacles in every direction, making it incredibly difficult to crash—ideal for protecting your investment!
- Social-Ready Imaging: It features a stellar 48MP camera capable of rotating to shoot true vertical video and photos, which is perfect if she loves text-sharing images or posting on her phone.
A budget-conscious alternative

If the Mini 4 Pro feels a bit too premium for a gift, DJI offers other just-as-capable models at lower price tiers. If you want something even more accessible, check out my guide to the best DJI drones under $500 to find a sweet spot that feels a bit less pricey.
Happy flying, Al!
