Three Apps at 3 Billion Users Each

Meta controls the widest social media reach on the planet. Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have each crossed 3 billion monthly active users. No other company comes close to owning three platforms at that scale simultaneously.

The latest user data paints a clear hierarchy. Instagram reached 3 billion users in September 2025. WhatsApp hit the same milestone during Q1 2025. Facebook crossed it back in 2023. Combined, Meta reported 3.56 billion total unique users across its family of apps in Q1 2026. That figure represents nearly a third of the world’s population.

However, the number also carries a warning sign. Meta’s Q1 2026 total marked a slight decline from the previous quarter. It was the first drop in overall user count since the company began reporting. That dip suggests Meta’s growth ceiling may finally be approaching.

YouTube sits just behind Meta’s individual platforms at 2.7 billion monthly users. Its Shorts feature has exploded, jumping from 30 billion daily views in 2022 to 200 billion daily views in 2026. That growth rate positions YouTube as the strongest competitor to Meta’s video ambitions.

TikTok claimed 1 billion monthly users in 2021. Independent estimates placed it at 1.6 billion by 2023. But TikTok has not shared official usage data since. Regional restrictions and bans may have slowed its trajectory.

Snapchat is closing in on 1 billion users. It reached 956 million in Q1 2026, driven largely by rapid adoption in India. Pinterest surprised analysts by climbing to 631 million monthly users. Threads reached 500 million and now trails X’s 550 million by a narrow margin. That gap could close within quarters.

LinkedIn reports 1.3 billion total members. But EU reporting data suggests only about 32% use the platform monthly. That puts LinkedIn’s active user base closer to 416 million.

For Pakistani marketers and brands allocating digital budgets, these rankings matter. Meta’s dominance means Facebook and Instagram remain essential channels. But Threads’ rapid growth and YouTube’s Shorts explosion signal shifting attention that smart campaigns should follow.
