Samsung may be preparing a surprise device for next year

A few days ago, a report from Korea suggested that Samsung was going to launch eight flagship devices next year, including four foldables – the Flip9, Fold9, Fold9 Ultra, the TriFold 2.

Today, a different source has unveiled the codenames for Samsung’s foldable lineup for 2027, and there are five of them: B9, H9, Q9A, Q9B, and Z9. The Flip8‘s codename was B8, making B9 rather obviously the Flip9 – so it hasn’t been canceled like a previous rumor suggested. Similarly, the Fold8‘s codename was H8, so H9 is the Fold9. That much is simple.

The Q9A and Q9B seem like they would be two different variations of the same device, but the source thinks one of them is the Fold9 Ultra and the other one is the TriFold 2. If that’s the case, then that leaves the Z9.

It’s impossible to know what this is exactly, but of course we would love it to be the first smartphone with a rollable display. That’s what the source of these codenames seems to think too, explaining that the device associated with the Z9 codename “appears to be more tablet-like than phone-like in terms of hardware”, whatever that means (keep in mind this quote is machine translated from Dutch, so it may not be a perfect translation).

While this is as thin as rumors get, we have been waiting for a rollable phone for many years now, and we would definitely not be surprised if Samsung would do it first, seeing as how Samsung Display is already producing larger rollable screens for some Lenovo laptops.
