RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Review

For the past couple of years, my back extension setup was a FLYBIRD Multi-Functional Roman Chair, a unit I tested a while back (you can read that review here). It carried me through plenty of back-day sessions, but I eventually started looking for something more purpose-built for heavier posterior-chain work and quicker transitions between exercises. That’s the gap the RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine needed to fill.

At the same time, my garage gym had reached its limit, literally and figuratively. Seven pieces of “big” equipment were already crammed into half of a two-car garage, with the other half of that half claimed by a workbench and a wall of tools. Adding an eighth piece meant it had to truly justify its footprint. No exceptions.

With that in mind, the RitFit BE01 entered the picture. To put it in perspective, I’ve also spent time on a full-size commercial GHD at a real gym, the heavy, floor-mounted kind you see in serious training facilities, built like it could outlast a building collapse, so I had a solid frame of reference at both ends of the category before this one showed up. I train Monday through Friday, and the BE01 naturally worked its way into that routine twice a week.

Two Boxes, One Ratchet, and a Bit of Patience

The BE01 shows up in two boxes, one weighing 95 pounds and the other 48 pounds, so plan your delivery day accordingly…or maybe plan to guilt a neighbor into helping you move them.

Inside, the parts are labeled well, and the diagrams are the kind you can follow without flipping the manual upside down twice. RitFit includes a nice ratchet, and it handles most of the build.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Wrench

Most…not all. Eight bolts sit at angles or depths where that ratchet head physically can’t reach them. That’s where the included stamped wrench gets used, although I still ended up grabbing my own socket set out of stubbornness more than necessity.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Assembly

Total build time landed at just over an hour, taking my time to make sure everything lined up before torquing it down. Nothing about the assembly is especially difficult. It’s more the kind of build that rewards slowing down, leaving a few bolts loose until the frame settles into place, then circling back to tighten everything once it’s square. I tried rushing one side early on and paid for it with an extra 10 minutes of backtracking.

The RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine is Built to Stay Put

Built from 2-by-3-inch steel tubing with a wide, low-set base, the BE01 plants itself on the concrete and stays there. For testing purposes, I loaded a 45-pound plate against my chest for weighted extensions more than once, leaned into some lopsided single-leg work, and never felt the frame shift, creak, or so much as think about tipping.

That level of stability just lets you train differently. You’re not thinking about whether the thing is going to shift or wobble mid-rep, you can actually lock in on the muscle you’re trying to hit instead of constantly bracing for the machine to do something weird underneath you.

For a machine this size and price, it comes surprisingly close to the planted feel of the full-size commercial GHD I mentioned earlier. Especially given its home-assembly design.

Small Footprint, Doesn’t Feel Small

All that steel and stability usually come at the cost of floor space, which in my garage is not a cost I can afford. The BE01 has a footprint of just 32.3 by 44.8 inches, and that number is a big reason it made it into my gym at all.

This was the eighth piece of equipment going into a space where half the garage is already claimed by my workshop. I wasn’t completely sure it would fit until I rolled the boxes in and started putting it together next to everything else.

It squeezed in with room to spare, which is more than I can say for some of the other pieces I own.

There is a tradeoff. At 116 pounds, the BE01 is stable in exactly the way you want during a rep and stubborn in exactly the way you don’t want when you’re trying to reposition it in a packed garage.

That’s where the two built-in wheels come into play. Tip it back and it rolls where you point it, whether that’s out of the way so I can get some floor work done or straight through the garage door onto the driveway on a nice afternoon so I can get sets in with sunlight on my face.

It won’t disappear into a closet, but one person can still move it around without much of a fight.

Twelve Positions and a Gas Spring That Spoiled Me

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Leg Adjustment

The BE01 offers 12 position combinations covering pad height, angle, and slider position. RitFit lists it as fitting users from 4 feet 7 inches to 6 feet 3 inches. I’m 6 feet tall, and judging by how close my head is to the ground on both the forward and backward range of motion, I’d say their sizing claim is right on the money. Once adjusted for my height, the fit feels dialed in and completely comfortable.

What surprised me was just how nicely the gas-spring helped with adjustments.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Gas Spring

I expected to fight the lever the way I fight most gym-equipment adjustments…the half-squatting, muttering routine where you’re trying to line up a pin with a hole you can’t see. My old Roman chair made me do plenty of that.

The BE01 is much easier. Pull the lever, the frame glides into position, let go, and it locks. After a month with it, going back to a basic pin-and-hole setup on anything else already feels a little primitive.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Pad and Footplate: Small Details That Add Up

The pad uses a 4.3-inch-thick curved split design wrapped in sweat-resistant tech leather. It separates at the hips instead of being one continuous slab, which keeps pressure off the groin and lets your hips settle naturally into the pad without any pinching or awkward pressure points.

I sweated through plenty of sessions on this thing, both in the garage and outside on the driveway. The pad never got slick underneath me, and it wipes clean in about 10 seconds once the session is over.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Foot Plate

The footplate measures 17.3 by 13.4 inches and keeps your feet locked in even once you start adding weight to the movement. A footplate that lets your heels drift mid-rep turns a back extension into an ankle-stability exercise you don’t want. This one didn’t do that. Not once during a month of use.

Nice Rubber Grip Handles

The machine features nice rubber handle grips that I use for assistance getting on and off the machine as well as getting set into position. They spaced appropriately and are made of a durable rubber that grips well even when sweaty, providing secure and reliable support throughout the workout.

One Machine, A Ton of Exercises

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Exercise

This is the part that changed my back-day routine more than the stability or the gas spring.

The BE01 isn’t a one-trick piece of equipment, and I ended up cycling through most of what it’s built for instead of sticking with one movement out of habit.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Back Exercise

Standard back extensions were the baseline, using bodyweight reps and stopping at a straight body line to warm up the movement. From there, glute-focused extensions became a staple twice a week. Rounding the upper back slightly and driving through the hips shifts more of the emphasis onto the glutes and hamstrings rather than the lower back.

Single-leg back raises came in once standard reps started feeling more boring than challenging. The footplate and pad kept me stable enough that the added balance demand felt like part of the exercise instead of a fight against the machine.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Side Bends

Side bends also worked the obliques in a way the FLYBIRD let me approach but never really let me load as heavily. The wider base and split pad simply gave me more to brace against.

I ended up using the band pegs more than I thought I would. Clipping on a resistance band and adding tension near the top of the movement takes seconds. On days when I wanted more than bodyweight but didn’t feel like hugging a plate, that became the move.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine Using Bands

Weighted extensions covered the other end of the spectrum, holding a plate or dumbbell against my chest once bodyweight and bands stopped being enough.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine GHD Situp

I also worked in GHD-style sit-ups every week. There is one limitation worth pointing out here: because of the compact footprint and height, you don’t get quite the same full arm-extension range you would on a full-size commercial GHD.

RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine GHD Situp Extension

The difference is small enough that you still get full abdominal extension and the full effect of the exercise, its just a slightly shortened version and worth mentioning. The BE01 is a back extension machine first, built around posterior-chain work rather than functioning as a dedicated GHD sit-up station. I wouldn’t weigh that one limitation too heavily against everything else it does well.

Warranty and What It Actually Costs You

RitFit backs the main frame for 36 months and the parts for 12 months. That’s a reasonable stretch of coverage for a machine that mostly consists of welded steel tubing, moving adjustment points, and a gas spring.

At around $400, the BE01 isn’t the cheapest back extension option out there, but it’s nowhere close to commercial GHD money either.

It lands in the middle between a basic Roman chair and a commercial machine that most home-gym owners won’t have the space or budget for. After a month of using it twice a week alongside my regular training schedule, that middle ground is exactly where the BE01 makes sense.

The Verdict on the RitFit BE01 Adjustable Back Extension Machine

The Ritfit BE01 is stable under load, adjusts faster and smoother than anything else in my setup, and handles enough exercises well that it earns its floor space in a way a lot of single-purpose equipment doesn’t.

If your back day has outgrown a basic Roman chair the way mine had, or you want something built for heavier posterior-chain work without giving up half your garage, the BE01 fills that gap nicely.

Pick one up if you’re ready to upgrade your home setup with a rock-solid, adjustable machine that makes posterior-chain training more comfortable, more controlled, and far more effective from the very first session.
