Apple has not yet launched its first foldable iPhone, but the company may already have plans for two more generations. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is working on future foldable models. Apple’s first foldable iPhone, rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra, is expected to arrive in September. However, the company’s plans may extend well beyond its first foldable device.
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman says Apple is planning a second-generation foldable iPhone for 2027. The upcoming model is expected to keep the same overall design as the first-generation device.
This latest report also matches a rumor shared in June. That report claimed Apple would retain the first foldable’s design for its second-generation model. Apple has also started work on a third-generation foldable iPhone, according to Gurman. The model could bring larger displays on both the outer cover and the inner folding screen.
Exact screen sizes for the second and third-generation models remain unknown. Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 5.5-inch cover display. The inner foldable screen is reportedly expected to measure 7.8 inches. If these plans remain unchanged, Apple could take a gradual approach to its foldable lineup.
The company is expected to reveal more details when its first foldable iPhone officially launches. Until then, the reported plans for future models remain unconfirmed.
