Google TV Freeplay is expanding beyond live television with a large new library of free, on-demand movies and shows. Google says viewers can now access more than 10,000 titles without a subscription, giving the platform a much broader mix of entertainment that can be watched whenever they choose.
The update brings video-on-demand programming directly into Freeplay, which has primarily served as Google TV’s hub for free, ad-supported television. Google is expanding the live side of the service at the same time, with more than 300 free channels now available across categories including news, sports, reality television, and true crime.
For Google TV users trying to trim another subscription from the monthly budget, Freeplay is starting to look less like a side menu and more like a destination of its own.
More Than 10,000 Movies And Shows On Demand
Google says the new on-demand catalog includes content from studios such as A24 and Lionsgate, with more than 10,000 movies and television shows available to stream for free.
Examples provided by Google include “Lady Bird,” “Seventeen Again,” and “Hell’s Kitchen.” The company says the library will continue to receive new content throughout the year, so the available lineup is expected to change over time.
The biggest shift here is flexibility. Freeplay viewers are no longer limited to finding something already airing on a scheduled channel. Movies and episodes from the on-demand library can be selected whenever the viewer wants to watch them.
Google notes that no subscription is required to access the content.
Freeplay Expands To More Than 300 Live Channels
The live television side of Google TV Freeplay is growing at the same time. Google says the service now includes more than 300 free live channels.

New additions include World of Love Island, Bloomberg TV+, Yahoo! Sports Network, and The Martha Stewart Channel. That gives viewers a wider range of programming without requiring them to jump between several separate streaming apps.
The expanded channel selection covers news, sports, reality programming, true crime, and other categories. Combined with the new on-demand library, Freeplay now gives Google TV owners both scheduled programming and pick-what-you-want viewing from the same service.
No Subscription Required
Google TV Freeplay is designed around free, ad-supported streaming rather than another monthly membership. That makes the new on-demand library particularly useful for viewers who want something beyond live channels without adding another recurring bill.
Access is straightforward for supported Google TV users. Google says viewers can open the Freeplay app directly from the Google TV Home screen and begin browsing available movies, shows, and channels.
Google has not provided a full list of the 10,000-plus on-demand titles, and the company says the catalog will be refreshed throughout the year. Availability of individual movies, shows, and channels may therefore shift over time.
More details about the expanded Google TV Freeplay lineup can be found through Google’s official announcement.
