Google updates checkout functionality in free listings

Google is testing new functionality within its free listings checkout experience. Earlier this year, Google launched direct checkout for free listings, and now it appears Google has made further changes to how it works.

Brodie Clark spotted this and shared it on X and the SERP timeline.

Brodie wrote: “Worth noting that the new ‘cart’ functionality in free listings operates a bit differently to how it did in the past. It is now heavily matched with UCP, where you can transact in Search or go to the checkout through this experience.”

Here is how it looks.

This suggests Google is continuing to refine the shopping experience within free listings, tying it more closely to UCP and giving users more flexibility whether that’s completing a transaction directly within Search or moving through to a full checkout flow.
