Google Ads is expanding asset optimization for Performance Max video ads. Using generative AI, Google Ads can now create missing aspect ratios from existing video ads. So if an advertiser hasn’t created every format for their video, Google Ads will automatically generate those missing versions.
What’s the purpose of this?
- Maximize the reach of video ads
- Provide video formats for different inventory
- Improve the viewing experience across placements
Can advertisers turn this off?
Yes. Advertisers have two ways to opt out:
- Connect with their account management team
- Submit Google’s opt-out form
An opt-out deadline of September 4 has been set for this. Advertisers can also adjust video settings within their Google Ads account later on, even after this date.

Here is the screenshot.
This is a good shift for PMax advertisers who don’t have the resources to produce every video format themselves. By automatically filling in missing aspect ratios, Google Ads can help ads reach more inventory without extra production work though advertisers who prefer full control over their video assets do have a way to opt out before the deadline.
