Nikon’s Japan-Exclusive Nikkor Z Wooden Lens Stand Is Gorgeous

Three Nikon Z-mount lenses, labeled 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm, stand upright on individual wooden display bases against a white background.

I’ve already complained about how Japanese photographers get much better camera company merchandise options than us Americans, and I’ll do it again, too! Nikon Direct, the company’s Japanese shop, has awesome new wooden display stands for Nikkor Z lenses, and I want them.

As spotted by Capa Camera Web, Nikon’s new Nikkor Z lens stands went up for sale this week and sold out nearly immediately. Demand is so high that Nikon opened preorders for another production run, with delivery expected in late September. Because it’s so popular, Nikon is limiting photographers to two units each, and only Nikon Imaging Members can purchase them.

Looking at the lens display stand, it’s of little surprise that photographers are interested in buying it. The stand costs 7,700 yen, or just under $50, and is constructed from a lovely combination of walnut wood and dark brown synthetic leather. It has a color-matched Nikon wordmark on the front and Nikon’s “Z” logo on top. Photographers place their lens inside a circular cutout, sized for the Nikkor Z lens mount. The bottom has four non-slip points to keep the stand from sliding around on a table or desk.

Given that the recessed lens mount cutout isn’t especially deep, Nikon advises photographers not to put super long lenses on the stand. The company says lenses under approximately 220 millimeters (8.6 inches) should work, leaving plenty of Nikkor Z lenses to display safely, including the Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II.

“Please refrain from using lenses longer than the above length, as there is a risk of tipping over,” Nikon says.

The company adds that photographers should keep the rear lens cap attached to their lens, which is sound advice. The company also says to display the lens without the tripod mount, lens hood, or square filters attached.

Two Nikon Zf cameras, one black and one silver, are positioned on a wooden shelf alongside two large Nikon lenses, the 135mm Plena and 58mm Noct, each resting on a branded wooden stand.

Three Nikon lenses on wooden stands sit next to a Nikon Zf camera with a 40mm lens on a wooden surface.

A Nikon 58/0.95 S lens sits on a wooden display base featuring the Nikon logo and a Z emblem.

“This lens display stand is designed to beautifully showcase your Nikkor Z lenses,” Nikon Direct says. “Made from walnut wood, the design highlights the presence of your lenses.

“The combination of the dark grain of the walnut and the dark brown PU leather complements the black-based Nikkor Z lenses, and the gold ‘Nikon’ and ‘Z’ logos engraved on the PU leather create a dignified impression.”

Is that an overly poetic description? Perhaps. But Nikon is bang-on that its Nikkor Z lens stand is beautiful. Sigh. And I thought Japan-exclusive tote bags were disappointing.
