Purple UAS Opens Certification Portal for Public Safety Drone Manufacturers

The Kansas Crewed and Uncrewed Aerial Systems Association (KCUASA), in collaboration with Kansas State University and FirePoint Innovation Center, Wichita State University, today announced the launch of the Purple UAS Certification Portal, establishing a new certification pathway designed specifically for unmanned aircraft systems supporting public safety missions.

Purple UAS provides manufacturers with an independent, transparent certification process focused on law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services (EMS), search and rescue (SAR), emergency management, disaster response, and critical infrastructure operations.

A distinguishing feature of Purple UAS is its ability to recognize qualifying prior federal certifications and evaluation activities – including Blue UAS and, where applicable, Green UAS evidence – thereby reducing redundant reviews and accelerating certification. Rather than requiring manufacturers to repeat previously completed evaluations, Purple UAS may rely on existing evidence to satisfy portions of its certification framework while independently reviewing public safety-specific requirements.

The Purple UAS Portal serves as the program’s central resource for educational materials, certification guidance, pricing, FAQs, and online certification applications.

“Conceived and designed with public safety in mind, the Purple UAS certification will be a valuable resource for those interested in purpose-built and FCC-compliant UAS.”

  • Roger Powers, Executive Director, KCUASA
“We are proud of our partnership with KCUASA in participating in the Purple UAS certification program. We look
forward to supporting our UAS OEMs interested in supporting public safety missions.”
  • Troy Harding, Director, School of Integrated Studies, Kansas State University
“We are excited to be part of the Purple UAS certification program. Through our independent, non-profit entity,
FirePoint, focused on the Defense Industry, we hope to accelerate the availability of compliant, quality UAS solutions
    through the program.”
