Google updated the Google Tag and Google Tag Manager. Google said, “these changes are designed to streamline your measurement setup, improve performance and management, and provide a more unified experience across Google’s tagging products.”
Ginny Marvin, the Google Ads Liaison, wrote on X, “Today, we’re rolling out updates across our tagging tools to make it easier for advertisers to effectively measure website performance.”
The functionality is unchanged but it does make it easier to set up with the new streamlined interface for the container and product. This redesign helps both new and experienced advertisers navigate their tagging setup more efficiently, Google explained.
Here is what is new according to Ginny:
- Consolidated tagging tools: Manage all your measurement settings for Google Ads and Google Analytics in one place as Google Tag now integrates the advanced capabilities of Tag Manager.
- Improved performance: This consolidation simplifies the data transmission process, which can result in faster website performance.
- No-code event tracking: Simply navigate through a purchase just like a customer would and the technical setup is handled automatically behind the scenes.
- New visual tagging: A map view showing which platforms (i.e Google Ads or Google Analytics) are capturing your performance insights, so you can spot and fix errors at a glance.
- In-account update guide: Soon you’ll be able to update and optimize your Google Tag Manager containers to gain access to these features from the optimization banner in your account. (You’ll be able to preview all changes before publishing to your workspace.)
Here is a video from Ginny with visuals of the changes:
We saw signs of these changes coming back in May.
