So Skoda has done something interesting. The company refuses to believe the sedans are dead in India. Skoda Superb, one of the most sought-after executive sedans in the country, is now back. This time, Skoda has decided to bring it with a diesel engine. Yes, at a time when internal combustion engines in general are on the decline and there is a sort of a confusing sentiment around petrol in India, Skoda has taken a bold step and decided to bring the 2 litre TDI engine with the fourth generation Superb which will be coming to India by the end of the second quarter of next year.
At an exclusive showcase in Bombay (on the sidelines of the Skoda Slavia launch last week), we got to experience the new upcoming Skoda Superb first hand and see what the car is all about. Do note we did not get a chance to drive the diesel-powered Skoda Superb, but we got to experience the car in all its entirety, and here are my thoughts:

Skoda Superb First Look: Holds up the ‘Superb’ class
Starting with the way it looks, I think the Skoda Superb still looks like a Superb and not some modern concept car-like version of it. Even the untrained eye will be able to easily tell which car this is, and that could be both – a good or a bad thing. In my opinion, that is a good thing because it does not take away from the whole Superb brand of executive sedans, but at the same time modernizes the design and the whole appeal of the car, making it more relevant to the current times.
It’s still as long as it was, sitting at more than 4.9 meters in length. It is also slightly wider at 1,849mm and sits on 18-inch alloy wheels, giving the Superb a very poised sedan stance that doesn’t look like it will scrape its bottom on every pothole or bump on Indian roads. Both the tail lights and headlights have been given a new, sleeker shape and design which looks more relevant to the modern times without taking away from the whole silhouette and look of a Skoda Superb.
In my opinion, the new Skoda Superb looks the part. It is an entry-level luxury executive sedan, and it looks the part. It’s classy, sophisticated, and it will surely stand the test of time. For me, that is a winner.

Skoda Superb First Look: All the bells and whistles
Coming to what we get with the new Superb. In terms of the features and the comfort and everything inside the cabin, you get all the bells and whistles that you could ask for in a modern car. For those in India, this will have a similar feature set and cabin as the Skoda Kodiaq, so we are getting everything we get with the Kodiaq:
- – 12.9-inch infotainment display
- – Smart dials
- – Three-zone climate control
- – Seat ventilation
- -Electronically adjustable seats with memory function.
- -Front seat massagers.
- -Digital instrument cluster.
- -Canton sound system.
- -Level 2 ADAS.
- -LED Matrix headlamps.
- -Ambient lighting.
The Skoda Superb is as premium as it gets, and it has every feature that you could ask for, which makes it super relevant even for its scheduled launch date of H2 2027. It does, however, miss out on a rather popular feature in India, which is a sunroof. Not just a panoramic sunroof: the Skoda Superb actually doesn’t have a sunroof altogether, which seems a bit strange but not a deal-breaker, at least in my opinion.

Skoda Super First Look: Diesel is back!
And finally, the talk of the town, the powertrain. The Skoda Superb has been unveiled with a 2.0 litre TDI engine, which is a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit that produces 148 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. As mentioned, we have not driven the new Superb with the diesel engine yet, but this is an engine that has been in circulation globally with the Superb. Around last year, Skoda had created a fuel efficiency record with this very TDI engine, running 2,831 km on a single tank, which means that this will be super efficient.
Now, we don’t know if the tuning for India will remain the same as the one where ŠKODA created the record. Even so, the return of the diesel is more than welcome, especially in a segment where everybody thought that diesel was dead. Especially at a time when everybody thought that ŠKODA might not bring another entry-level luxury sedan to the country, ŠKODA has given us a very pleasant surprise.
The launch, as ŠKODA told us, is expected to be towards the end of the second quarter of 2027. This, in a way, also makes this car slightly dated to come to the Indian market because this fourth generation of the ŠKODA Superb has been on the roads globally for about two years already.
