That makes the Y700 much more useful away from Wi-Fi, without turning it into another huge 13-inch tablet.
What are you getting?
The new Y700 uses an 8.4-inch OLED display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and a 165Hz variable refresh rate. Peak brightness can reach 4,000 nits in small areas, while 3840Hz PWM dimming and Dolby Vision are also supported.
The size is what I like here.
Most high-end Android tablets keep getting bigger, which is great on a desk but less useful when you actually want to hold one. The Y700 weighs just 298 grams and is 6.5mm thick, so it still feels like a proper portable tablet.
Is it fast enough for gaming?
I don’t think performance will be a problem.
Lenovo uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with LPDDR5T RAM and UFS 4.1 Pro storage. You can choose between 12GB/256GB, 16GB/512GB and a rather crazy 24GB/1TB version. There is even microSD support for another 2TB.
Lenovo claims an AnTuTu score of 4.58 million, but I wouldn’t focus too much on that number. Keeping the chip cool during a long gaming session matters more.
For that, Lenovo has added a 15,000mm² vapor chamber. You also get two X-axis vibration motors, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and two USB-C ports. One supports DisplayPort output, so connecting the tablet to a larger screen is easy.
5G makes much more sense here
The biggest upgrade may be the new 5G dual SIM support. The Y700 can make calls and use mobile data without needing your phone nearby. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 are also included. Battery capacity is 7,470mAh, with 68W fast charging. I would have liked something closer to 8,000mAh, but fitting 7,470mAh into a 298-gram body is still pretty good.
The cameras are basic, with 50MP on the back and 8MP up front. That’s fine with me. I would rather Lenovo spend the money on the screen, cooling and battery in a gaming tablet.
Prices start at 5,499 yuan (around $818) for 12GB/256GB. The 16GB/512GB version costs 6,499 yuan ($967), while 24GB/1TB jumps to 8,499 yuan ($1,264). The tablet is already on sale in China.
The price isn’t cheap, but I like what Lenovo is doing here. Small Android tablets usually come with mid-range hardware. The Legion Y700 AI gives you flagship performance without making you carry a laptop-sized screen.
