Ahead of its Surprise and shine hardware keynote on September 9, Apple has just hiked the price of its Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+) subscription service by two dollars in the US — the monthly price is now $14.99, up from its previous cost of $12.99 per month.
This price hike, as reported by Variety and Deadline, is taking effect as of Friday, August 28, with pre-existing subscribers to be notified of the change in price approximately one month prior to being charged at the new rate.
In addition to this Apple TV price hike, the tech giant is also raising the cost of its individual Apple One subscription plan, which ropes in Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple News+, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, and iCloud. The cost of Apple One is going up by two dollars as well, from $19.95 to $21.95.

Apple TV is a global streaming service which offers on-demand access to a growing list of exclusive content, including Severance, Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, and much more.
Subscription services keep getting more expensive
There’s seemingly no end in sight
Apple TV’s new monthly price increase is far from uncharted territory for the company. In fact, Apple has already raised the cost of the service four times since its launch in 2019, where it originally started at $4.99 per month. In other words, the cost of the service has essentially tripled in roughly four years.
Apple is far from the only company hiking prices on subscription services, with the likes of Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, and many others following a similar trajectory. Across the board, paid movie and TV show streaming services have gotten more expensive on the whole, with seemingly no light to be found at the end of the tunnel.
Apple TV’s new monthly price increase is far from uncharted territory for the company.
With this in mind, many film and show fans are turning to free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) services like Tubi and Pluto TV to get their entertainment fix, but Apple TV does have an ace up its sleeve: exclusive access to a wide variety of content not found anywhere else online.
Indeed, if you’re looking to stream the likes of Ted Lasso, Severance, Pluribus, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, Silo, or For All Mankind, Apple TV is the place to be. With this leverage, Apple maintains a compelling streaming service proposition on the whole, even if it’s now a more expensive one than at any time in the past.
