Owkin announced on September 2, 2026 that it has entered a license agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim covering K Pro, Owkin’s AI Scientist for biopharma research, together with multimodal patient data aimed at speeding discovery across multiple indications in oncology and immunology.
Under the agreement, Owkin will license multimodal oncology data to Boehringer Ingelheim and will generate new multimodal data in immunology, according to the Owkin announcement. Owkin licenses, sources, and generates multimodal patient data in collaboration with its global patient data network.
Agreement Builds on 2025 Pilot
The license follows an initial pilot that Owkin undertook with Boehringer Ingelheim in 2025. In that pilot, Owkin delivered deep spatial insights into the tumor microenvironment of a gene target through its MOSAIC dataset.
MOSAIC, the Multi-Omics Spatial Atlas in Cancer, is described by the project as the world’s largest spatial multiomics dataset in oncology. The MOSAIC project site reports that the dataset currently spans 11 therapy areas, six data modalities, 100 clinical variables per patient, and 2,725 total patients, with spatial omics data generated for 2,371 patients and single-cell omics for 2,168. The six modalities are spatial transcriptomics, single-cell RNA sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, whole exome sequencing, digitized H&E histology, and clinical data for every patient.
The project’s founding partners are Owkin, Gustave Roussy, Charité, CHUV, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, and the University of Pittsburgh. Owkin’s own MOSAIC data page describes a target scale of 7,000 patients across seven cancer indications, including non-small cell lung cancer, ovarian, bladder, mesothelioma, glioblastoma, breast cancer, and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. By mapping interactions between cells within the tumor microenvironment, the project states it aims to uncover new disease biology, identify more precise patient subtypes, and discover biomarkers and drug targets.
How Boehringer Teams Will Use K Pro
Boehringer Ingelheim’s research teams will access and analyze the licensed data through K Pro, which Owkin describes as a single environment to interrogate data and run reproducible analyses. According to the company, K Pro’s reasoning capabilities support both human-led analysis and self-driven campaigns for hypothesis generation, testing, and prioritization.
Owkin’s K Pro product page describes the system as an AI agent for biology powered by multimodal patient data, built around a single intelligent orchestrator that dynamically selects and combines specialized AI skills across drug discovery and development. Documented functions include ranking therapeutic targets and gene candidates using statistical evidence from TCGA and MOSAIC datasets, evaluating target tractability and safety profiles, characterizing patient subgroups based on multi-omics profiles and clinical outcomes, validating biomarkers across bulk RNA-seq, single-cell, spatial, and clinical data, and generating publication-ready statistical reports for target assessment, biomarker prioritization, and patent landscape analysis. The platform is offered in free and professional tiers, with the professional tier adding proprietary data access, data upload, and deployment options on client infrastructure.
Owkin describes itself as an agentic AI company pursuing what it calls Biological Artificial Superintelligence, and says K Pro is built on its multimodal patient data network and a decade of work with pharmaceutical partners.

Oncology and Immunology Focus
The agreement targets discovery across multiple indications in oncology and immunology, two of Boehringer Ingelheim’s stated therapeutic areas. The drugmaker’s clinical pipeline page, current as of May 2026, lists more than 80 active preclinical and clinical projects and notes that half of the pipeline is anchored in external collaborations across research, pre-clinical, and clinical portfolios. Its listed oncology projects include the HER2 tyrosine kinase inhibitor zongertinib and the DLL3/CD3 T-cell engager obrixtamig, while immunology programs include candidates in inflammatory bowel disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic sclerosis.
The Boehringer agreement extends a series of K Pro partnerships Owkin has announced with large pharmaceutical companies. In a June 5, 2026 release, Owkin announced a multi-year collaboration with Sanofi to co-develop biopharma agents backed by a five-year K Pro license, building on a strategic partnership between the two companies that began in 2021. Owkin announced a separate multi-year K Pro license agreement with AstraZeneca in May 2026.
