Google Search Console recently introduced a new feature that allows property owners to see performance data for their social accounts. This property type includes query, post, country, device, search appearance, and date data.
Gagan Ghotra posted something interesting related to on X, wrote:
“Social properties in search console – it’s showing really really weird queries….. this for my own X account but for my clients (YouTube, Instagram mostly) it’s showing even crazy queries (which a human is really unlikely to search) and these are always sitting at 0 clicks! #SEO. Are these fan outs of some AI Search system or what’s going on?”
When we checked the query data on our own Search Console property, we couldn’t find similar odd queries.
Lily Ray also shared an image on X (i am assuming this is similar to what Gagan shared from his own Search Console account.)
Lily didn’t offer any explanation, simply writing: “What’s up with these???” alongside her screenshot.
Vanessa Fox on X shared a similar image as well.
Gagan raised an interesting question whether these strange, unlikely-sounding queries might actually be “fan-out” queries generated by AI search systems, rather than something a human actually typed. This is similar to something we’ve covered before: AI Mode’s follow-up queries (like short responses such as “yes”) also show up in Search Console’s performance reports, often looking odd out of context. It’s possible these platform property queries follow a similar pattern.
