DuckDuckGo is encouraging users of its search engine in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge to try its own browser.
In Chrome, we spotted a large “Switch to Our Browser” card on DuckDuckGo’s New Tab experience. The card says the browser is “fast, free, and gives you even more online protection,” and includes an “Install DuckDuckGo Browser” button and a “No Thanks” option.
DuckDuckGo also shows browser-install promotions directly on search-results pages in Chrome and Edge. In our testing, the cards used messages including “Upgrade to our browser” and “Switch to Our Browser,” while a separate variant at the bottom of the results page said, “Get Our Windows Browser.”
DuckDuckGo offers its browser for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
The browser promotions come as DuckDuckGo has expanded its AI-free Search option. In June, the company introduced Chrome and Firefox extensions designed to make its No-AI Search experience easier to set as the default. The no-AI version removes AI tools, including AI-assisted answers and chat features, and filters AI-generated images from image results by default.
It’s an interesting piece of cross-promotion: users can use DuckDuckGo Search inside Chrome or Edge, but DuckDuckGo is also using that search experience to encourage them to switch to its own browser.
It is not clear whether the browser promotions are rolling out broadly or are part of a limited campaign or experiment.
