Google Merchant Center now lets account owners add videos directly to their products. This is meant to help improve conversions on product pages, since video tends to perform better than static photos alone and now it’s native to the product feed itself, not just an ad asset.
Arpan Banerjee spotted this and shared on LinkedIn along with a screenshot.
He wrote:
“Merchant Center wants to see your products in video.
Add videos directly at product level – no more relying only on static images to sell the details.
Flexible specs – 9:16, 16:9, or 1:1 aspect ratios so vertical, horizontal, and square all work.
6 to 240 seconds – enough room to show fit, texture, and function without dragging on.
720p minimum – Google’s explicit about not accepting blurry or low-res clips.
500MB file cap – plan your compression before upload day.
Why it matters – video converts better on product pages than photos alone, and now it’s native to your feed, not just an ad asset.”
Here is the screenshot he shared.
This gives advertisers a native way to showcase products through video directly within their feed, rather than relying solely on video as a separate ad-only asset. With flexible aspect ratios, generous duration limits, and clear quality requirements, this could make it easier for merchants to bring more dynamic product content directly into search and shopping results.
