New Insta360 drone? What is ANTIGRAVITY?

Yes, the leaked photo of the “Insta360 drone” is real.  I know because I’ve actually flown it.  Here are 7 hints from a beta tester.

A few days before DJI enters the 360 camera market, Insta360 announces a partnership to compete with DJI in the drone market, adding fuel to the growing rivalry between these two companies.

The new company is called Antigravity, an Insta360 subsidiary.  What makes Antigravity unique among drone manufacturers is that it will focus on 360 drones.  Antigravity hasn’t shown any of their products yet but there have been leaked photos of two drones — one marked Antigravity and the other marked Insta360.  I don’t know about the latter, but I’ve flown the larger one that says Antigravity.

What are 360 drones and who needs them?

360 drones are similar to typical drones but they can capture a fully spherical 360 view.  Moreover, most 360 drones are designed to be invisible to their 360 cameras.  The result is a video that doesn’t just look like it was shot with an invisible flying camera, but was in fact shot with one.

I’ve had several 360 FPV drones (such as the Pavo360, Invisi360, X-Knight and Cinebird) and they can capture unique videos that would otherwise be impossible with a typical drone.  But they are also very challenging to fly and prone to damage.

Antigravity’s 360 is very different from the ones I’ve tried and fortunately, it is far easier to fly.  The design and specs are not public yet but the company said it will be under 250 grams (which means registration may not be required in many jurisdictions, including the US).  They’ve also disclosed that the resolution will be 8K.  The drone will be announced in August 2025.

What do you think of 360 drones?  Would you be interested in getting one?  Let me know in the comments!
