Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will officially feature an early access period for its single-player campaign. The full game launches on October 23. However, players can jump into the Modern Warfare 4 campaign story a full week early on October 16. To unlock this early access, you must pre-order the Standard Digital or Vault Edition of the game. Furthermore, multiplayer modes will remain locked during this period. The classic PvP multiplayer and the upgraded DMZ mode will drop on the regular launch day.
Modern Warfare 4 Campaign: The Korean Conflict
For the first time in a mainline title, the franchise is tackling the North and South Korean conflict. Naturally, the game will still feature the trademark superhero-adjacent vibes that fans expect.
Moreover, the developers are returning to their roots. Modern Warfare 4 will deliver a traditional, set-piece-heavy campaign. Consequently, this abandons the poorly received open-world sandbox structure previously seen in Modern Warfare 3.
Upgraded DMZ: A Game-Within-a-Game
Beyond the campaign, the game promises a massive PvPvE DMZ experience. The developers built this upgraded mode around the new Korean conflict setting. Ultimately, it acts as a complete “game-within-a-game”.
Specifically, the new DMZ includes free-roam activities, spec-ops missions, and full-fledged story objectives. Since Call of Duty campaigns are notoriously short, this mode offers excellent co-op and long-term progression. It provides a perfect alternative for players who dislike standard run-and-gun PvP modes but still want substantial content.
Finally, watch your wallet. The expensive Vault Edition carries a substantial premium price. It includes extra weapon blueprints and Operator skins. Therefore, if you only care about the single-player experience, you can safely skip these premium upgrades.
