The latest WhatsApp beta available on TestFlight brings back message animations on iOS, this time with a setting that lets users turn them off. Here are the details.
Message animations coming back to WhatsApp
As spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working to bring back message animations on iOS.
The news comes a week after the same setting rolled out in WhatsApp’s Android beta, and it adds Messages as an option that can be turned on or off in Settings > Chats > Animations, alongside switches for Emoji, Stickers, and GIFs.

From WABetaInfo:
WhatsApp removed this animation from the iOS app in a previous update. Since then, messages have appeared without any effect at all. Finally, WhatsApp is now reintroducing message animations on iOS, but with a different style and a dedicated setting this time. We discovered the news after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.24.10.70 update, which is available on TestFlight. Specifically, WhatsApp is rolling out a new animation for messages to some beta testers.
The site notes that rather than “simply popping into place,” the message bubble “now fades in while slightly scaling up as it settles into the conversation with the new animation.”
As with most features introduced through WhatsApp’s TestFlight beta, message animations are currently available to only a limited number of testers.
There is no word on when they will roll out publicly, but with testing now underway on both iOS and Android, an official launch may not be that far off.
