Next year could see the introduction of the largest ever iPhone screen, according to a leaker with a decent track record.

Supply chain sources indicate Apple is trialing a new display, which may be destined for a new iPhone whose name remains a mystery for now …

The naming mystery of next year’s flagship iPhone

2027 will be the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, and it’s long been believed that Apple has something special in the works. This is expected to be the year in which the company gets extremely close to the long-term vision of the iPhone design as “a single slab of glass.”

It’s been suggested that Apple might produce a special standalone 20th anniversary iPhone, much along the lines of the iPhone X. More recent reports instead indicate that the radical new design will simply be presented as next year’s Pro models, aka the iPhone 19 Pro and Pro Max.

A third possibility is that Apple would give a nod to the anniversary by jumping straight from the iPhone 18 to the iPhone 20.

Largest ever iPhone display

Leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS) says that supply chain sources indicate Apple is currently testing its largest ever iPhone screen. However, the jump in size is a relatively small one over the existing iPhone 17 Pro Max with its 6.9-inch diagonal.

An exclusive and forward-looking information shows that Apple is proofing a super-large screen with a physical size of 6.96 inches and a standard size of 7 inches.

In other words, their belief is that Apple would market it as a 7-inch screen.

DCS doesn’t have any information about the intended purpose of the new display, if indeed Apple progresses it, but speculates that it may be for next year’s iPhone Pro Max – however that model may end up being branded.

Is it possible this is for the iPhone 20 Pro Max? To be further determined

Apple tests a lot of different things, most of which never make it to market, so even if it’s true that this display exists within the company’s supply chain as a prototype, that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily destined for an iPhone.

All the same, if the company’s goal is that single slab of glass look, then being able to describe it as the largest ever display does seem a plausible part of the mix.
