Google added Brave Search to Chrome; Brave is using it to push Brave Browser

Google recently added Brave Search to Chrome’s list of available search engines, giving users another option for what powers searches in the browser.

Now, Brave is using that placement in Chrome to promote its own browser.

If you set Brave Search as Chrome’s default search engine, its results page may show a sticky “Get Brave Browser” prompt at the bottom of the screen. It asks users to “Browse privately with Brave” and includes a button to download the browser.

The prompt stays at the bottom as you scroll through search results, keeping the Brave Browser promotion in view while you search.

That means someone can choose Brave Search without leaving Chrome, only to be encouraged to leave Chrome for Brave Browser.

Brave Search does not require Brave Browser. You can use it in Chrome or another browser and continue using the browser you already have.

DuckDuckGo has previously used its search-results page to promote its own browser to Chrome users, so Brave is not the first search engine to try this approach.

Chrome has only recently added Brave Search as an available search-engine option, and Brave is already using that foothold to market its browser to Chrome users.

The prompt can be dismissed and does not block or alter the search results. It stays visible while users browse.
