Action Ordered Against Public Transport Without QR Panic Buttons in Lahore

The Lahore Traffic Police has decided to launch strict enforcement action against public transport vehicles that fail to install mandatory QR panic buttons, as part of a broader effort to improve passenger safety and strengthen transport security across the city.

Authorities have ordered a crackdown on rickshaws, public transport vehicles, and online ride-hailing cabs that do not comply with the new safety requirement. The initiative aims to ensure all vehicles meet updated legal and safety standards.

Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said the campaign is being implemented to bring transport services in line with modern safety regulations. He confirmed that special monitoring teams have been deployed across all traffic sectors to oversee installation and compliance.

According to officials, 12 dedicated teams have specifically been assigned to monitor rickshaws, while additional enforcement groups are tracking compliance among other public transport categories.

The CTO also noted that four new licensing centres have been established at the request of rickshaw unions to facilitate drivers, alongside ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and reduce administrative delays.

He added that consultations have been held with online taxi companies and rickshaw associations to ensure smooth implementation of the safety system.

Officials said the introduction of QR-based panic buttons and tracking systems is expected to improve real-time monitoring of both passengers and drivers, helping enhance traffic discipline, public safety, and crime prevention through technology-driven enforcement.
