RISION has launched the Magic Series, a pair of compact USB-C thermal cameras designed to turn supported smartphones, tablets, and computers into portable inspection tools.
The lineup includes the $139 RISION Magic for household troubleshooting and the $299 Magic Pro for professional inspections, detailed diagnostics, and report generation. Both 24-gram modules connect directly to compatible Android, iOS, and Windows devices, drawing power from the host hardware rather than relying on a separate battery.
Thermal Imaging Without Dedicated Hardware
The Magic Series gives homeowners, technicians, inspectors, and tradespeople a way to examine temperature differences using a device they may already carry.
Common uses include locating drafts around doors and windows, checking insulation, inspecting electrical outlets, examining HVAC equipment, and identifying unusual heat patterns in appliances or electronics. Thermal cameras can reveal hot and cold areas that may be difficult or impossible to detect through a standard visible-light camera.
Both models use RISION’s QuadIR super-resolution technology, which the company says doubles the pixel density of the final thermal image. Its AI BiSpectrix fusion system combines thermal information with visible details captured through the connected device’s camera, making it easier to identify the component, opening, or surface associated with a temperature reading.
The companion RISION View app includes temperature measurement tools, calibration controls, and 12 color palettes. Basic functions do not require account registration, and the mobile and desktop applications carry no additional software fee. An account may be needed for cloud backup and access across multiple devices.
RISION Magic Targets Homeowners And DIY Repairs
The standard RISION Magic is positioned as the more approachable option for homeowners and DIY users.
Its plug-and-play USB-C connection supports quick inspections of underfloor heating, insulation, windows, electrical components, and household appliances. The module measures 60 x 42 x 10 mm and uses an aerospace-grade alloy housing.
RISION says the hardware underwent hundreds of drop tests during development. That does not make it invincible, of course, but it should be less precious than a tool that spends its life wrapped in foam.
Magic Pro Adds Advanced Measurement And Reporting
The Magic Pro is aimed at inspectors, contractors, technicians, and advanced users who need more image detail and analysis controls.
Its higher native and processed resolution is intended to make smaller components easier to distinguish during electrical-panel, HVAC, and mechanical-equipment inspections.
Users can track up to five points, five lines, and five areas at the same time. Real-time waveform graphs display changing temperatures, while custom thresholds can flag readings outside a chosen range.
Thermal photos retain temperature data for later analysis, and thermal video can document heating cycles, cooldown periods, and intermittent faults. The app can generate PDF reports containing thermal images, measurements, timestamps, locations, annotations, and custom watermarks. Cloud synchronization is supported for users who activate it.
Pricing And Availability
The RISION Magic carries a $139 MSRP and is available for preorder through RISION’s website beginning August 3. An early-bird discount lowers the price to $119, with open sales scheduled for August 24.
The RISION Magic Pro is priced at $299 and is expected to arrive in late September through RISION’s website and Amazon store.
Early purchases of either model include an extra year of warranty coverage, bringing the total warranty period to three years. More details are available through the official RISION website.
