Elon Musk has announced plans to create an AI-generated version of “The Odyssey,” a film by Christopher Nolan, claiming his version will be more historically accurate to the original work.
Musk revealed on the social media platform X that the film, produced using Grok Imagine, would remain faithful to the original epic. Alongside the announcement, he shared a nearly three-minute AI-generated video depicting a scene between Odysseus and Calypso.
The announcement follows Musk’s earlier endorsement of a proposal by a social media user, who suggested that director Mel Gibson produce a historically accurate adaptation of The Odyssey for roughly $100 million.
The proposal envisioned authentic ships, weapons, and armor, with dialogue drawn directly from the original poem. Musk responded to the suggestion by saying he was ready to back the project.
In recent days, Musk has repeatedly criticized “The Odyssey” by Nolan, accusing the director of altering the original story in pursuit of award recognition.
He also objected to the casting choices specifically criticizing the decision to cast actress Lupita Nyong as Helen of Troy and at one point described Nolan as a filmmaker with racist tendencies.
Despite the criticism, “The Odyssey” has performed strongly at the box office, earning more than $264.06 million worldwide in its opening week.
