The federal government has merged two ad hoc relief allowances into the basic salaries of civil servants, in a move aimed at easing financial pressure on government employees.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the 15% ad hoc relief allowance granted in 2022 and the 10% ad hoc allowance introduced in 2025 have now been permanently incorporated into basic pay.
Officials said the decision will result in a significant increase in the basic salaries of federal civil servants across all pay scales and grades.
The merger is expected to have a cascading effect on several financial benefits, as pension calculations, house rent allowance, and other perks are directly linked to basic pay.
The federal government has also approved a 50% increase in the conveyance allowance for civil servants, citing rising petroleum prices and growing daily commuting costs as key factors.
The Ministry of Finance stated that the conveyance allowance revision was necessary to provide financial relief to salaried employees facing increased transportation expenses.
Officials noted that the automatic rise in house rent and other allowances, resulting from the higher basic pay, would further improve the overall financial position of government employees.
