GAT Sport Nitraflex Pre-Workout Chews Review

GAT Sport has been in the performance nutrition game since 1997, and if you’ve been around the supplement world long enough, you’ve probably seen their Nitraflex powder on a shelf somewhere. For over 25 years, they’ve built a reputation around one idea: serious ingredients for serious athletes.

So when they decided to release a chewable version of their flagship pre-workout, the question wasn’t really “can GAT make a good product?” It was “can you actually cram powder-level performance into a tablet you chew at the gym?” That’s a tall order, and it’s exactly what we set out to answer.

The short version: this product is interesting. Whether it’s worth your money, whether it actually performs, and whether it makes sense for your routine, that’s what this review is here to settle. Let’s get into it.

What Is It, and What’s in It?

The Nitraflex Explosive Pre-Workout Chews are GAT’s answer to a real problem with pre-workouts: powders are effective but inconvenient, and traditional gummies can’t deliver the ingredient doses that serious training demands. The chews are designed to bridge that gap using what GAT calls a patent-pending chewable delivery system.

Here’s what makes that delivery system interesting. With a powder or a drink, ingredients sit in your stomach waiting to digest before they hit your bloodstream. With these chews, GAT claims absorption begins while you’re still chewing — through the lining of your mouth — and continues after you swallow. That dual-pathway approach is what they’re calling the “faster sensory experience,” and it’s the core innovation behind the product.

Each serving delivers around 10 grams of active ingredients, which stacks up against what you’d find in most powder formulas:

  • L-Citrulline (4g): for blood flow and muscle pumps
  • Beta-Alanine (3.2g): to support muscular endurance
  • Betaine Anhydrous (2.5g): for strength and power output
  • Caffeine (200mg): energy and performance
  • L-Theanine (100mg): for smooth, jitter-free focus
  • Huperzine A (100mcg): cognitive performance support

The formula also keeps sugar under one gram per serving, which means you’re not getting a blood sugar spike followed by a crash, which is a common complaint with energy drinks and sugar-loaded gummies.

The chews come in three flavors: Blue Raspberry, Fruit Punch, and Grape Cotton Candy. They’re available in a 30-serving bottle ($39.99 MSRP) and a 10-serving trial pack ($16.99 MSRP), and you can pick them up through GAT’s website, Amazon, or at The Vitamin Shoppe.

Putting The to the GAT Sport Nitraflex Pre-Workout Chews Test

Taste

While convenient these chewables did not taste ideal, it’s the same flavor you would get taking a dry scoop but four times. The consistency was very chalky and dry and left a rather unpleasant aftertaste. While the taste wasn’t great, it wasn’t unbearable either after a few uses you get used to the flavors. The fruit punch was much better than the blue raspberry. It didn’t taste as artificial and tart but the consistency issue was still there.

I did find a work around that made the flavor much more tolerable and that was letting them dissolve in water, it made it much less tart and chalky. But with letting them dissolve in water that takes away the point of them being chewable. Overall I would give this about a 4/10 on the taste while it’s not the worst I’ve ever had it’s definitely not the best.

The main marketing GAT Sport uses for these is the convenience of their product which I have to give to them. These chewables were incredibly easy to use and very consistent with results. It took away the messy scooping of the powder and made it quick and easy with their premeasured chews. No more digging for a scoop or spilling it on the rim of the container, just 4 chewables and you are done.

While convenient for taking all 4 before your workout GAT sport also suggest using them throughout your work out to keep a consistent energy level and while I agree their product did just that it also meant keeping a baggy of their chewables in my pocket and awkwardly eating them every 20 minutes or so while in the gym. But overcoming that was no issue; it was well worth it for the steady stream of energy while lifting.

How Did the GAT Sport Nitraflex Pre-Workout Chews Work?

GAT Sport claims that the absorption starts the moment you start chewing and that is definitely true. Hands down one of the fastest acting Pre-workouts I have ever tried. Normally I take my pre-workout before I leave my house; so by the time I get to the gym, change, and get started the pre-workout starts to kick in. I didn’t even make it half way through my 30 minute commute to the gym before I started to get beta-alanine tingles and an increase of awareness from the caffeine, however that was after taking all four pellets at once.

When I took one every 20 to 30 minutes I definitely felt less of a sudden jump into the pre-workout. When I took all four chews at once I felt a very strong tingling sensation and a focus for around 45 minutes then I could tell the chews were starting to fade out, I normally tend to take stronger pre-workouts so it’s nothing short of what GAT Sport claims. GAT Sport’s preworkout chews did exactly what they claimed it would.

When I spaced the chews out it helped avoid that crash a lot. While it didn’t feel as strong it helped keep it very consistent throughout my entire lift. The pump I got from just 4 chewables was alright, again probably due to my normally higher potency pre-workouts. When I adjusted the amount of chewables I took from 4 to 6 (to match my other pre-workouts) my results went way up almost instantly. Overall it felt like a very clean, and smooth transition into that tingly, focused, and energized mindset that pre-workout puts you into. No joltiness or shaky feeling. I had no feelings of fatigue or headaches and I was able to continue my day as normal post lift just like I wanted.

Who Should Buy The GAT Sport Nitraflex Pre-Workout Chews?

If you train after work, travel regularly, or just hate the ritual of scoops and shakers, the Nitraflex Chews remove a lot of friction from your pre-workout routine. The ability to dial in your caffeine dose tablet-by-tablet also makes these smarter than a pre-mixed drink for athletes who train at different times of day and don’t want 200mg of caffeine at 7pm to wreck their sleep.

For the hardcore powder loyalist who already has a setup they love and isn’t bothered by the prep, the chews may feel like a step sideways rather than forward. You’re getting similar ingredient doses in a different format, not necessarily a more powerful product.

Where these make a strong case for themselves: anyone who’s ever stood in a parking lot, shaker bottle in one hand, trying to mix a powder and not spill it on their shirt before a training session knows exactly what problem GAT is trying to solve here.

The Verdict on the GAT Sport Nitraflex Pre-Workout Chews

GAT Sport isn’t new to this, and it shows in how the Nitraflex Chews are built. The ingredient stack is solid and research-backed, the fast-acting delivery system feels legit in use, and the ability to fine-tune your dose chew by chew adds a level of flexibility most powdered pre-workouts don’t offer. In testing, they delivered quick energy, steady focus, and clean performance without the headaches, stomach issues, or rough comedown that can ruin a training session.

The catch is the taste. These were not the best thing to take day after day. The chalky texture and lingering aftertaste make them more functional than enjoyable, and that matters in a product you’re literally chewing before or during training. Still, the convenience is hard to ignore. No shaker, no scooping, no mess, and no guesswork on dosing. At $39.99 for 30 servings, the pricing feels fair for what you’re getting, and the $16.99 trial pack is the smart move if you want to see whether the format works for you before buying a full bottle.

Bottom line: Nitraflex Chews are a strong option for athletes who value convenience and consistent performance more than flavor. They are not something I’d call especially tasty, but they do what they claim and make pre-workout easier to use in situations where powders are a hassle. For me, that lands them at a 7/10: effective, clean, and extremely convenient, but held back by a taste and texture that are tough to get excited about.
