As Widow’s Bay mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) could tell you after he spent the night in a supposedly haunted hotel with a totally normal guy who was definitely not a killer clown ghost, facing your fears is easier when you’re not alone.
Now, you too can brave the horrors of Widow’s Bay with a friend (or a couple hundred strangers) by your side. Deadline reports Apple TV is partnering with Rutgers University, the alma mater of series creator Katie Dippold, to host a series of one-night-only fan screenings of the last three episodes of Widow’s Bay season one at select AMC theaters. And the best part is it’s totally free.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Rutgers University to bring Widow’s Bay to fans and give them a chance to experience the final episodes of the season in a shared setting,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV, said in a statement. “Katie Dippold has created a uniquely entertaining world filled with unforgettable characters, sharp humor and surprising turns, and we’re excited for audiences to come together to celebrate the series and the incredible response it has received.”
The series takes place on the fictional New England island of Widow’s Bay, which Tom is desperate to turn into the next Martha’s Vineyard. But it turns out that it’s hard to revitalize your town and turn it into a tourist destination when the terrifying legends the kooky locals talk about might actually be real and the local inn is so unsettling that even the owner won’t sleep there.
Widow’s Bay quickly became a massive hit with critics and audiences, earning 19 Emmy nominations at this year’s ceremony. Apple TV has confirmed that a second season is in the works.
You can catch the last three episodes of Widow’s Bay on the big screen on August 12 in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. Tickets are available here.
