Google And XREAL Release AURA: Android XR Glasses With Impressive 70-degree View

XREAL is officially launching XREAL AURA today at AWE 2026, turning the formerly teased Project Aura into a commercial product scheduled to arrive this fall. The device was first unveiled at Google I/O 2026 as part of Google and XREAL’s Android XR collaboration, and now more technical details have been revealed: lightweight optical see-through XR glasses built for Android XR, Gemini-powered, and powered by Qualcomm’s newest XR chip.

Google And XREAL Release AURA: Android XR Glasses With Impressive 70-degree ViewAURA uses a wired, split-compute architecture. Instead of placing all processing, battery, and thermal loads inside the glasses’ frame, XREAL uses a dedicated spatial compute unit powered by the Snapdragon Reality Elite. This keeps the headset more wearable while still delivering the performance required for spatial computing, hand tracking, 6DoF experiences, and AI-driven interactions.

The glasses feature a 70-degree field of view, which XREAL describes as a virtually borderless visual canvas. That is an important specification for optical see-through XR, where the goal is not just to mirror a phone screen but to place useful, interactive digital content into the real world. World-facing sensors on the frame support hand tracking, 6DoF tracking, and multimodal AI experiences with user permission.

Inside the frames, XREAL’s X1S Spatial Coprocessor handles low-latency spatial display, sensor processing, and stable glasses-based XR experiences. Meanwhile, Android XR brings Play Store access, Gemini integration, and a growing developer ecosystem.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite delivers up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 30% higher CPU performance, and up to 160% higher NPU performance compared with Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2. The platform also supports up to 4.4K per eye at 90Hz, while targeting improved battery life and cooler operation. Read more details in our dedicated article here.

XREAL has not announced the final retail price for AURA yet, but the company is opening reservations ahead of the fall launch. Customers can reserve a spot with a $99 Launch Credit, which will convert into $199 credit toward the final purchase, effectively giving early buyers a $100 discount. XREAL is also offering a Founder Priority Pass for $299, limited to 2,000 reservations globally, which guarantees launch-day delivery in supported regions and includes numbered special-edition hardware. The final MSRP will be announced closer to the availability date.
