Google is bringing link carousels for developing topics to AI Mode, giving users more prominent access to relevant articles and webpages when searching for trending topics. This feature was already available in AI Overviews and is now live in AI Mode as well.

“Our goal with AI Search is to make it easy to connect with original coverage and a range of perspectives. Now live in AI Mode (already in AI Overviews): link carousels for developing topics. Ask about something that’s trending and you’ll see links to relevant articles, webpages (incl your Preferred Sources) front & center. Here’s an example from the other day.”
Here is the example he shared.
This update gives publishers another opportunity to get visibility for trending topics directly within AI Mode, especially for sites that users have marked as a Preferred Source. It also gives users a clearer way to explore original reporting and multiple perspectives on a developing story, rather than relying solely on the AI-generated summary itself.
