“Ecommerce SEO News: the AI performance report in Google Merchant Center (Google’s only AI report that shows queries) is expanding. I’m now seeing it for a broader set of client accounts, with some new reporting sections and data included that weren’t there previously.
When I originally shared the first screenshots of the report back in July, it was fairly simple, featuring some top-level insights for the Shopping journey and some generic ‘query term’ data.
The report has now expanded to include sections for AI performance reporting related to:
- AI Search intent — this reporting section allows you to see how your products match customer AI searches.
- AI Search terms — this reporting section recommends improving your visibility by including popular terms in your product descriptions for products that show up in AI searches.
- AI Attributes — this reporting section recommends increasing your visibility by adding missing attributes to your products that show up in AI searches.
Interestingly, there is also a new ‘Products showing’ column within the search intent and search term reporting that allows you to see the number of products for a verified domain that show up on Google in AI searches.
At this time, you’re unable to see the products that are referenced within the reporting, only the count of items that align with both of the reporting views.
Overall, there are some very encouraging changes happening with this report, and I’m curious to see where the Shopping team is headed with it. Take note, Google Search Console!”
Here is the screenshot from when the report first launched back in July.
Here is the updated screenshot showing the expanded version.
This updated report gives account owners some genuinely useful new features for deeper analysis, providing more granular data than what was previously available.
