Google is testing AI-generated descriptions in Shopping and product ads. This follows a similar test spotted last month in regular sponsored text ads, which Google confirmed was a small experiment and now the same approach appears to be showing up in Shopping ads as well.
Brodie Clark and SERP Alerts spotted this on X, with Brodie sharing screenshots showing the AI generated descriptions appearing on Shopping ad listings.
This isn’t the first sighting of this kind of test. Back in June, Darcy Burk shared a screenshot showing Google testing AI-generated summaries within product descriptions for sponsored ads suggesting Google has been exploring this idea for a while now, across different ad formats.
A Google spokesperson confirmed the test
“This is a small experiment to see if adding AI generated context to Search ads helps people make more informed decisions.”
So this one’s confirmed by Google itself, though the company is framing it as small and experimental meaning it likely isn’t showing up for most advertisers or shoppers yet. Worth watching to see if this expands beyond text ads into more Shopping placements, and whether AI-written descriptions start influencing how products get chosen over others.
