iPhone Air 2 rumoured to resolve our two biggest complaints, but is an Apple sequel even desired?

Apple is reportedly planning a follow up to the 2025 iPhone Air, despite reports of the slimmed down, lightweight smartphone being a rare commercial failure.

According to the ever-reliable Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a second-generation iPhone Air model for the spring of 2027, likely alongside the base iPhone 18 that’s said to be launching as part of a split autumn/spring release schedule.

The erstwhile Apple insider’s sources say the company is planning to add a second rear camera to the device, to boost battery life and upgrade the processor to the A20 Pro likely to feature within the iPhone 18 Pro models.

After the first generation model, we were unsure whether Apple would revisit the iPhone Air form factor. While Apple does not reveal the sales figures for its individual handsets, several reports suggested the company quickly cut production to adjust for the limited demand. A Nikkei report alleged there was “virtually no demand.”

Plus, with Apple reportedly launching its first foldable this year, alongside its usual crop of four iPhone models, would there really be a spot available for the an iPhone Air in the line up, especially considering there may be an iPhone 18e on the horizon too?

Our iPhone Air reviewer was impressed with the stunning new design, the large 6.5-inch display, pro-level hardware, as well as the slim and pocketable form factor that still felt robust.

In handing out a four-star review, Stuff Editor-in-Chief Dan Graham bemoaned that the single lens camera wasn’t enough and that the battery life was very average. It appears Apple may make amends for both with a second generation model – especially if an ultra wide camera was added to the mix.

Dan concluded: ‘While the iPhone Air is a fantastically designed device, Apple itself does much better options if you are happy to go for a little more bulk. Roll on iPhone Air 2 – if Apple can add another camera and longer battery life to this phone, then it could be a fantastic third option to the standard phone or going Pro.”

It seems Dan may get his wish.
