La Sportiva Prodigio 2 | Blister Review

La Sportiva has earned a solid reputation for making purpose-built, durable trail shoes that excel in technical mountain terrain (see our previous reviews). That makes a lot of sense for a brand with origins in technical climbing, mountaineering, and skiing — but it may have also limited the popularity of La Sportiva shoes to a particular audience within the trail running space.

La Sportiva has tried to break out of this niche a number of times over the years (shoes like the Jackal are a good example), but the narrower fits and firmer cushioning typical of Sportiva shoes still tend to cater to more technical, rocky running. But in spring 2026, the brand introduced the Prodigio 2, which is their latest entry into the “all around” trail shoe category.

La Sportiva released the original Prodigio in 2023 as a versatile, high-cushion training and racing shoe, and the Prodigio 2 is an evolution of those same ideas. This new version is lighter, more breathable, and allegedly more stable than the first version of the shoe, but its intended purpose is the same as the first version — which, according to La Sportiva, is to feel at home pretty much everywhere.

La Sportiva describes the Prodigio 2 as a “versatile workhorse for tempo runs, long days, and everything in between.” That description raised some questions for me right out of the gate, since, in my experience, there’s usually a specific area in which a shoe really excels — it’s very rare to find a truly “versatile” shoe that actually outperforms a purpose-built competitor in any given category. So I was interested in putting time in the Prodigio 2 to see for myself where it performs the best — or if it really is one of those rare “do everything really well” shoes.

I’ve spent the past few months putting some miles in the Prodigio 2 over a wide variety of surfaces and speeds, and in this review, I’ll offer my thoughts on where it excels, where it has room for improvement, and what type of runner might get along best with a shoe like the Prodigio 2.
