I have tried a lot of sandals over the years, and most of them disappointed me in one way or another. Some felt too narrow, some rubbed my feet raw after a few hours, and others lacked the support I need for long days on my feet. Because of my foot issues, I usually approach new footwear with pretty low expectations. I hoped the Lems Switchback Sandal Knit would work well for casual summer wear, but I did not expect them to become my favorite sandals almost immediately.
From the moment I slipped them on, they felt comfortable. I did not need any break-in period, and I never dealt with pressure points or stiffness. That alone impressed me because I rarely find shoes or sandals that feel good right out of the box. I could tell right away that Lems focused heavily on comfort and natural movement with this design.
Lems Switchback Sandal Knit Fit and Sizing
Sizing worked out perfectly for me. Since the sandals only come in whole sizes, I chose to size up because I normally wear a half size. That ended up being the right call. The fit feels roomy without feeling sloppy, and the sandals stay secure while I walk.
I have wide feet, so I pay close attention to how footwear fits through the forefoot. Many sandals squeeze my toes or force my feet into an unnatural shape, but these give my toes room to spread naturally. The wide foot-shaped design makes a huge difference in overall comfort, especially during long days of walking.
The adjustable straps made it easy for me to fine-tune the fit around the heel and instep. Once I dialed them in, the sandals stayed secure all day without needing constant readjustment while walking around town or spending time outdoors. I also love how easily they slide on and off. I can simply pull the back strap up or down around my heel instead of constantly strapping and unstrapping them.
Knit Upper Comfort
The knit upper stands out as one of my favorite features. The material feels soft against my skin while still holding my foot securely in place. Some sandals with fabric straps create hot spots or rough rubbing areas, especially around the toes or ankle, but I never experienced that with these.
The knit material also feels breathable, which matters a lot during hot and humid summer weather in Michigan. My feet stayed comfortable even on warmer days when I spent hours outside. I also appreciate how quickly the straps dry after getting wet. That feature came in handy when washing my car and during outdoor activities near the water.
Even though the straps feel soft, they still feel durable. I have worn these sandals constantly since I received them, and the knit material still looks great. I do not notice stretching, fraying, or weak spots anywhere on the upper.
Lightweight Yet Supportive
One thing that surprised me most involved the balance between lightweight comfort and support. Many lightweight sandals sacrifice stability, but these manage to feel airy without feeling flimsy. The sandals move naturally with my feet, but they still provide enough structure for all-day wear.
The contoured Barefoot Footbed feels comfortable underfoot and gives me a more connected feel to the ground without making every surface feel harsh. I enjoy footwear that allows natural movement, and these sandals accomplish that while still offering enough cushioning for pavement, packed dirt, and long days on my feet.
The outsole also impressed me. The rubber sole grips well on different surfaces, and I never felt unstable while walking. I wore these sandals during bike rides, campground walks, yard work, and trips around town, and they handled everything easily. The sole flexes naturally but still feels durable enough for regular use.
Everyday Wear and Hard Use
Since receiving these sandals, I have worn them every chance I get. They quickly became the pair I grab first whenever the unpredictable spring weather allows. I wore them to the grocery store, while running errands, around the campground, during bike rides, and even during trips to amusement parks.
The true test came during a two-day visit to Cedar Point. Each day, my step count exceeded 20,000 steps as I spent hours walking between roller coasters, standing in lines, and crossing the park from one end to the other. Normally, that much walking leaves my feet sore and exhausted, especially when I wear sandals. With the Switchback Sandal, I experienced the exact opposite.
At the end of both days, my feet still felt surprisingly good. In fact, they did not even feel tired. I kept waiting for the usual aches and discomfort to appear, but they never did. I came away incredibly impressed by how comfortable these sandals remained throughout two full days of nonstop activity on hard pavement.
The Cedar Point trip also led to a fun conversation with another roller coaster enthusiast who noticed my sandals and asked about them. I was more than happy to tell her all about them because by that point I had already become such a fan. It is not often that a piece of footwear impresses me enough that I genuinely want to recommend it to strangers, but these sandals earned that level of enthusiasm.
I also appreciate how versatile they feel. They look casual enough for everyday summer outfits but still feel capable enough for light outdoor adventures. I can wear them while relaxing around the campsite or while spending the day exploring a new area. At this point, I have logged miles and miles in these sandals, and they continue to impress me every time I wear them.
Fun Color Options
The sandals come in four colorways, but the Prism option caught my attention. I wanted something bright and fun for summer, and Prism really delivers. The orange pop on the sole stands out without feeling overwhelming, and it still pairs easily with casual outfits.
I also love that the Prism colorway comes with two extra interchangeable strap sets in pink and purple. That adds a level of customization I did not expect. I can switch the straps based on my mood or outfit, which makes the sandals feel even more personal and unique.
Swapping the straps is not something I would call difficult, but it does take about ten minutes and a little bit of effort. Once I figured out the process, it became much easier. For me, the extra time is absolutely worth it because I enjoy being able to customize the look of the sandals and coordinate them with different outfits. Having three different strap colors almost feels like owning multiple pairs of sandals in one.
Details like that make the design feel thoughtful rather than generic. It is clear Lems put real attention into both comfort and personality with this sandal.
Lems Switchback Sandal Knit Durability and Build Quality
Even though the sandals feel lightweight, they do not feel fragile. I have worn them heavily already, and they continue to hold up extremely well. The outsole still looks great, the straps remain secure, and the footbed still feels supportive.
I also appreciate how sturdy the sole feels underfoot. Some lightweight sandals wear down quickly or lose support after regular use, but these still feel just as comfortable as the first day I wore them.
The overall construction gives me confidence that I will continue reaching for these throughout the summer and beyond.
Final Thoughts on the Lems Switchback Sandal Knit
This marks my third pair of footwear from Lems Shoes, and every pair has impressed me in different ways. Still, the Switchback Sandal Knit stands out as my favorite so far.
I cannot think of a single thing I would change about this sandal. The comfort, lightweight feel, wide fit, soft knit upper, and supportive design all work together incredibly well. For someone like me who struggles to find comfortable footwear because of foot problems, that means a lot.
I have tried a lot of sandals over the years, and most of them disappointed me in one way or another. Some felt too narrow, some rubbed my feet raw after a few hours, and others lacked the support I need for long days on my feet. The Switchback Sandal Knit completely changed my expectations.
These sandals made summer footwear easy again. I no longer hesitate before long walks, busy outings, or all-day adventures because I know my feet will stay comfortable. I have already worn them for countless miles, and at this point I hope they last forever because I am not sure I can live without them.
If you want a sandal that combines natural comfort, flexibility, support, and everyday versatility, I highly recommend giving the Switchback Sandal Knit a try. You can check them out for yourself at lemsshoes.com
