Logitech Mobi Fold review: Folding travel mouse

The Logitech Mobi Fold is an ultra-portable wireless mouse designed for people who work on the go. It folds to fit easily in a pocket or bag, then unfolds into a full-size mouse when it’s time to work.

I just returned from a beach vacation where I put the Mobi Fold through hours of real-world testing. Here’s what it’s like to use.

Logitech Mobi Fold review

I don’t like trackpads — I want a mouse whether I’m in the office or working remotely. Perhaps it’s because I started using Macs long before the trackpad was invented. But whatever the reason, I always carry a travel mouse when I’m on the go.

I’ve used a lot of these over the years, some better, some worse. Which is why I was thrilled to be able to try out the Logitech Mobi Fold — it has the potential to be one of the best.

So very portable

A very portable travel mouse

Years ago, Microsoft gave me an Arc Mouse, and I loved it. I’ve since misplaced it, but I still search for it occasionally because it was such a brilliant design.

The Logitech Mobi Fold comes closer to the Arc Mouse than anything I’ve tried. It folds for easy transport, then opens to make a tent shape when it’s time to be productive.

Folded, the accessory measures 2.5 inches by 2.2 inches by 0.8 inches. It weighs under 0.2 pounds. It fits easily in a bag or even a pocket — though I wish it were a bit flatter.

The Mobi Fold opens to be 4.75 inches long, which is roughly the size of a desktop mouse. It certainly isn’t some inconveniently tiny travel mouse.

As for color, you can get the product in graphite, lilac, off-white or sand.

All it takes to activate the Bluetooth accessory is to unfold it. And it can pair with up to three computers, and switch between them at a press of a button on the bottom of the device.

Speaking of buttons, the standard left and right buttons are there. And rather than a traditional mousewheel, there’s a touchpad.

Not great ergonomics

The Logitech Mobi Fold isn’t as comfortable as I’d like.

The designers of the Logitech Mobi Fold clearly put most of their emphasis on making it portable, and less on ergonomics. Or perhaps I use a mouse differently than the designers.

It seems intended for me to lay my entire hand down across the top of the mouse. When I do that, the left and right mouse buttons fall naturally under my fingers.

Problem is, that’s not how I hold a mouse. I tend to keep my fingers curled a bit, so they fall nearer the middle of the Mobi Fold where they are just barely on the left and right buttons. And the device feels slightly awkward in my hand. Maybe it’s because there’s nowhere for my thumb and pinky to sit?

I’m trying to adapt the way I hold a mouse to it, in hopes that it’ll get more comfortable. Just wish I didn’t have to.

To be clear, the mouse is completely usable, and I intend to give it a permanent home in my gadget bag. But I don’t love it.

Lefties might feel somewhat differently. The accessory is every bit as easy to use left-handed as right-handed.

Plenty of power

Logitech promises a month of use from a full charge of the Mobi Fold. I’ve used mine on and off for weeks, including a week of working from the beach, and its battery still sits at 95%.

The accessory maker also says that you can get 22 hours of use with just a 1-minute quick charge. That’s important because you can’t use the mouse while it’s charging.

Juice up the device via the USB-C port on one end.

As a frequent traveler who depends on a mouse, I truly appreciate a design that minimizes space. I’d be happier if the device felt less awkward for me to use, though.
