For years, the other phone makers have given Apple some breathing room. If the September schedule is accurate, that approach is changing.

Huawei’s the biggest surprise here. Its Mate phones have launched later each of the past two years, usually around November. A September Mate 90 would break that pattern , and put it almost head-to-head with Apple for once.
Foldables are stacking up too. Huawei’s Mate XT 2 is releasing early in september. Xiaomi’s 18 Fold is expected this month as well. And Apple’s rumored first foldable iPhone may land alongside its regular iPhone 18 lineup. If you’re waiting on a good foldable, September could be the month that actually delivers. And if you dont want a foldable? Well there will be many more options.
There is also something happening isnside the phones. Xiaomi’s 18 series is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Vivo and OPPO are reportedly moving to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600.
Of course, the September lineup isn’t official yet, just leaks. Tho vivo and honor are exceptions, having already confirmed that it has a September launch planned.
But if all those leaks are true, then we can expect a fight between the industry’s biggest smartphone brands at the same time.
