Gamers can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Take-Two Interactive has officially locked in the final release date for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6. CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed and reaffirmed that the highly anticipated game will launch on November 19, 2026. He shared this reassuring update in a preliminary proxy statement filed on July 17. Consequently, the company has crushed any lingering rumors of further setbacks. Zelnick has spent over half of this year assuring investors about this exact date. Therefore, fans can confidently expect the game to arrive right on schedule.
A Journey of Delays & Record-Breaking Financial Projections
Rockstar Games initially announced a 2025 release window during the game’s December 2023 reveal trailer. Later, the developer pushed the date to May 26, 2026. Eventually, Rockstar delayed the massive project a second time to November 19. At that time, the studio stated it simply needed extra time to polish the game. The developers wanted to ensure the final product meets the high AAA quality standards that fans expect. Now, this latest governance statement serves as the most confident signal yet that development is progressing without any further complications.
The upcoming launch will likely shatter industry records. Analysts estimate that GTA 6 could generate between $3.25 billion and $5 billion during its very first week on the market. To put this massive scale in perspective, GTA 5 earned $1.7 billion in its first 12 months. In fact, the previous installment took roughly four years to finally cross the $5 billion sales mark. Furthermore, the November 19 release falls right in the middle of Take-Two’s 2027 fiscal year. As a result, the company expects this upcoming cycle to be its best year ever for net bookings.
GTA 6 Release Order: Single-Player First, Multiplayer Later
When the game drops this November, players will dive strictly into the single-player campaign. History will soon repeat itself regarding the multiplayer mode. Rockstar plans to formally unveil the next-generation version of GTA Online closer to the main launch date. Subsequently, the multiplayer component will arrive a few weeks after the single-player story. This staggered release strategy perfectly mirrors the original successful rollout of GTA 5 back in late 2013.
