Pelican’s New Camera Backpack Bridges the Gap Between Bags and Hard Cases

A green Pelican backpack stands next to an open, black Pelican hard-shell rolling case with internal padded dividers holding camera equipment.

Pelican’s new bag, the PX35 Aegis 35L Creator Pack, is designed to bridge the gap between a traditional backpack and the hard cases the company is best known for.

“Most camera backpacks force creators to choose between heavy hard protection and lightweight field mobility, often requiring expensive add-ons just to make the bag usable,” Pelican explains.

The company believes the Aegis 35L Creator Pack avoids this pitfall by being a complete, field-ready system that works alongside Pelican’s existing hard case ecosystem.

A hiker with a large backpack walks across the crest of a sand dune under a clear blue sky.

To that end, the Aegis 35L Creator Pack features a removable padded interior system that fits inside standard Pelican hard cases, including Pelican Air or Protector 1510 and 1535 cases. Pelican says photographers can use the organizer inside a rolling hard case when flying, then put it in their backpack when they head out into the field to shoot.

“A Pelican hard case gets your gear to location safely. The Aegis 35L Creator Pack is the ‘last mile’ solution,” Pelican says. “Lighter than a hard case, built for mobility on terrain, with the same protection standard Pelican is known for.”

As its name suggests, the Aegis 35L Creator Pack has extensive space for gear. The 35-liter capacity is ample for carrying multiple camera bodies and lenses, including gripped models and telephoto zoom lenses. The interior case has removable padded dividers and straps to keep gear secure, and it’s accessible via rear and side openings.

With this interior system installed, there is still room at the top of the bag, which has its own access point, to put additional gear and accessories. The backpack includes front and side pockets, a tripod strap, and numerous interior pockets for small odds and ends.

The backpack’s exterior dimensions are 22 x 12.6 x 8.6 inches (55.9 x 32 x 21.8 centimeters), and it weighs 5.4 pounds (2.45 kilograms) when empty. It’s constructed using a weather-resistant 500D Cordura shell and ships with a deployable rain fly for extra protection. The backpack includes an ergonomic padded harness and breathable back panel.
