The method below replaces or disables part of that newer shell interface. It is not a hidden Microsoft setting, and it does not turn Windows 11 into Windows 10. Depending on your Windows build and configuration, you may notice differences involving tabs, XAML-based folder views, command-bar buttons, or other newer Explorer features.

1. Check your processor architecture
The ExplorerPatcher project identifies two installer names:

Save the installer, and note the ExplorerPatcher version and your Windows build before installing. That information makes it easier to find a compatible release or undo the change later.
3. Install the shell customization
- Run the architecture-appropriate installer.
- Allow the installation to complete. ExplorerPatcher may close and restart
explorer.exe, so the taskbar or open File Explorer windows may briefly disappear. - Afterward, open ExplorerPatcher Properties by right-clicking the taskbar and choosing the ExplorerPatcher properties entry, or search for ExplorerPatcher from Start.
If the taskbar does not return promptly, wait a short time before forcing a restart. A shell customization is actively changing explorer.exe; repeatedly launching installers or killing the process can make troubleshooting harder.
4. Turn off the Windows 11 command bar
- Open ExplorerPatcher Properties.
- Open the File Explorer section.
- Enable Disable the Windows 11 command bar.
- Apply the change if the interface provides an Apply button, then restart File Explorer or sign out and sign back in.

Why registry-only fixes are not the dependable answer
