The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is Samsung’s first wide foldable, which makes it a lot easier to use when it’s closed. Right now, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 512GB model is $250 off at Samsung, down to $1,850, from $2,100, through Sept. 21. If you have an eligible phone to trade in, you can get up to $800 off instead, which brings the price down to $1,300.

You’ll need to pick one of the two discounts, since Samsung won’t let you combine them. The amount of trade-in credit you get will depend on the phone you send in, and it looks like only the newest phones will get you the full $800.
Samsung will also give you a $200 Samsung Credit with either discount. You can’t put that credit toward the Fold 8 itself, but you can use it on select Galaxy Buds, watches, and accessories in the same order.
Review: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 earned an Editors’ Choice award from our reviewer, Prakhar Khanna. Samsung has gone with a shorter, wider design, so you can comfortably type and read on the 5.5-inch cover screen without opening the phone. When you do open it, you’ll get a 7.6-inch inner screen shaped more like a tablet. Prakhar couldn’t feel the crease when he ran his finger over it, and he could only spot it in some lighting.
The Fold 8 weighs 201 grams, which makes it Samsung’s lightest Fold yet. Samsung has also bumped the battery up to 4,800mAh, from 4,400mAh on the Fold 7, and Prakhar consistently got more than eight hours of screen time.

You will have to live with a few trade-offs, though. The Fold 8 doesn’t have a telephoto camera. Samsung has also skipped built-in Qi2.2 magnets again, which means you’ll need a case to use magnetic chargers or accessories. The Fold 8 is rated IP48 for water resistance, though it isn’t resistant to small dust particles like pocket lint.
To get the deal, you’ll need to head to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 page on Samsung’s site and pick the 512GB model. Under Samsung Trade-in, you can select “Yes, trade-in” to see your credit, or “No” to get the $250 Samsung Instant Savings. Once you’ve chosen your Samsung Care+ coverage and a payment option, you can tap Continue. The next page will show you the watches, earbuds, cases, and other add-ons you can use your $200 credit against. You’ll lose any credit you don’t use there, so make sure to add what you want before you continue to checkout.
Note: If you trade in a phone, you’ll have 15 days from the day your Fold 8 arrives to send it in. You’ll need to make sure the phone powers on, holds a charge, and has a working display with no cracks or liquid damage. You’ll also have to factory reset it, disable any software locks, and own it outright, since Samsung won’t accept leased phones. If you miss the 15-day window or your phone fails Samsung’s inspection, Samsung may charge back the trade-in credit. The Fold 8 doesn’t come with a charger in the box.

How I rated this deal
I’ve reviewed multiple foldables over the years, so I know what a good price tag on one looks like. Without a trade-in, the $250 works out to about 12% off the 512GB model, which lands in our 2/5 bracket. The full $800 trade-in credit comes to 38% off, which would earn a 4/5, though you’ll only get that much for a handful of the newest phones. Samsung was offering up to $1,200 in trade-in credit during pre-orders. I moved the rating up from the no-trade-in bracket because the Fold 8 is a brand-new phone that is also a ZDNET Editors’ Choice pick, and you’ll get the $200 Samsung Credit with either discount. That’s why I gave this deal a 3.5/5 Editor’s deal rating.
