Top pick
This uniquely shaped mirror has an elegant brass frame and a perfectly flat reflective surface. It is exceptionally heavy, though.
Why it’s great
It has a unique shape. In an ocean of wavy, arched, and circle mirrors, this Art Deco–inspired number, which is based on Gio Ponti’s design from 1933, stands out. With its subtle symmetrical arches and a slightly narrower base, the Article Alice Floor Mirror feels airy and architectural (one friend called it a “double popsicle,” much nicer than my initial offering of “cheerful tombstone”). You can also get a smaller wall version.
It is easy to lean securely. Like some other picks, this mirror comes with a tip kit, which secures the mirror to the wall if you choose to simply lean it. But even if you decide to forgo those tools, or you want to spend a few weeks playing around with the placement, this mirror has two rubber grips on the bottom and an overall heft, so it feels steady.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
Delivery can be annoying. Both times we had the Article mirror delivered, we experienced a miscommunication hiccup — with an accidental duplicate order created on each occasion. I had to call a representative to sort it out. On the plus side, those reps are very helpful, and they answer in a timely fashion, but it would have been nice to avoid the follow-up altogether.
It’s very heavy. Something weighing 54 pounds may not be intimidating at the gym, but I had to carefully pivot the mirror from side to side to get it across my apartment, and I considered it my workout for the evening.
