New integration lets agencies deploy or migrate Team Awareness Kit entirely within Canada —no foreign hyperscaler required
Think On, Inc. (ThinkOn), a Canadian-owned sovereign cloud provider, and AVSS – Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions Inc. (AVSS), today announced a partnership that removes the last reason Canadian police services and defence organizations have had to run Team Awareness Kit (TAK) on a foreign hyperscale cloud: their integration puts TAK, and the drone data feeding it, entirely on sovereign Canadian infrastructure.
The integration streams telemetry and video from MAVLink-compatible drones directly into TAK’s common operating picture and out to TAK-enabled devices, including ATAK, exactly as agencies already expect. The difference is where it runs: the TAK server sits on ThinkOn’s Canadian cloud platform rather than a foreign hyperscaler, so nothing about the experience changes for field teams — only where the data lives.
Most TAK deployments today run on hyperscale platforms because that is the default environment those providers make available. TAK gets offered up as a reference example of what can be built on their infrastructure, and the agency is left to design, build and maintain everything around it. That leaves sensitive location, video and operational data sitting on infrastructure outside Canadian jurisdiction. ThinkOn and AVSS built this integration specifically to close that gap: the same TAK capability, the same interoperability, but hosted entirely within Canada, under Canadian ownership and control.
For agencies already running TAK on a hyperscaler, that means a direct path to a sovereign environment without retraining field teams or changing day-to-day workflow. For agencies that haven’t deployed TAK yet, it means starting sovereign from day one instead of defaulting to a foreign cloud simply because that’s what’s been readily available — with the added benefit of faster, better-coordinated response for the communities they serve.
