What is Titan M3?
Titan M3 is Google’s latest security chip that’s found within the Pixel 11 series. It’s the first new mobile security chip from Google since Titan M2, which launched back in 2021 with the Pixel 6 line-up, and works alongside Google’s Tensor G6 processor.
According to Google, Titan M3 combined with Tensor G6 form its most robust, proactive defense system yet and brings “post-quantum cryptography to secure boot on your device” – which is a first for Google Pixel.
Google explains that the new Pixel handsets are engineered to help keep sensitive data safe from advanced attacks and risks by quantum computers in the future. According to the NIST, current encryption algorithms aren’t enough to stave off attacks by a quantum computer (which draws upon different scientific concepts than a conventional computer). That’s where post-quantum cryptography comes in, as its encryption algorithms must be based on problems that would be “difficult for both conventional and quantum computers to solve”.
In conclusion, the Pixel 11 series promises to offer “real-world protection” while a new report by Counterpoint Research claims that Google’s AI experience on Pixel has the “most privacy protection on a phone”.
