Toyota Camry Hybrid vs Skoda Superb: How Will These Luxury Sedans Compare?

TL; DR
  • Camry prioritizes hybrid efficiency, refinement, comfort and relaxed everyday driving.
  • Superb brings a diesel-DSG powertrain, larger boot, sharper dynamics and more cabin technology.
  • Superb’s expected ₹55-60 lakh price could position it above the Camry in India.

This isn’t your typical head-to-head comparison. On the one hand, the Toyota Camry Hybrid has been available since December 2024 (almost two years now). On the other hand, the Skoda Superb marks the return of the car and Skoda’s diesel engine to the Indian market. The company has already showcased the car in August 2026, but you can’t buy it until next year, i.e., 2027.

So, be aware that what follows is an informational comparison based on what’s confirmed about each car today, in August 2026, to give you a preview of what’s coming to the Indian market in 2027: a competition between two luxury sedans. That said, both cars chase the same buyer, but in truly different ways. The Camry wants to be the brilliant machine you never think about twice, while the Superb intends to remind you it’s a car made to drive.

Toyota Camry Hybrid vs. Skoda Superb: Dimensions & Practicality

Spec Toyota Camry Hybrid Skoda Superb
Length 4,920 mm ~4,912 mm
Width 1,840 mm ~1,849 mm
Height 1,445 mm ~1,511 mm
Wheelbase 2,825 mm 2,841 mm
Boot space 524 liters 645 liters, seats up
Body style Traditional three-box sedan Liftback (hatchback-style opening rear)

Both cars belong to the premium luxury/D2 segment and have similar dimensions. While the length and width are in the same ballpark (4.9 meters long and 1.85 meters wide), the Superb has a higher roofline at 1,511 mm. That extra 66 mm of headroom could translate into a more spacious, airy cabin.

When it comes to wheelbase and boot space, the Superb excels with a longer wheelbase and a significantly bigger boot (about 121 liters more). The primary difference between the two is how the boot opens. The Camry, similar to the City and the Slavia, is a three-box sedan where only the metal deck lid opens while the glass stays fixed.

The Superb, in contrast, is a liftback or notchback sedan, meaning the entire rear door opens (including the entire rear glass and bumper section), creating a bigger opening that makes it easier to load large trolley bags. Skoda has built a reputation for this over three generations of Superb.

Toyota Camry Hybrid vs. Skoda Superb: Powertrain

Spec Toyota Camry Hybrid Skoda Superb (Diesel)
Engine 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder petrol + electric motor (5th-gen Toyota Hybrid System) 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel (TDI)
Combined power ~230 PS (about 227 bhp) 150 PS (148 bhp)
Torque 221 Nm 360 Nm
Transmission e-CVT 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch automatic)
Drivetrain FWD FWD only
0-100 km/h 7.96 seconds 9.2 seconds (claimed)
Top speed 200 km/h 225 km/h (electronically limited)
ARAI mileage 25.49 kmpl 20.8 km/l (globally tested mileage)

The Camry’s hybrid setup is one of the main reasons people buy it. That 2.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol mostly sleeps in city traffic because the electric motor does most of the job, especially below 20-25 km/h. That’s actually where the 25.49 kmpl ARAI figure feels believable in the real world. Several people have put the car’s fuel economy to the test, and it comes out to be around 20 km/l on average (considering the city and highway economy).

Is there any downside then? Yes, especially for enthusiastic drivers. The e-CVT transmission is designed for relaxed driving. So, when you push it on the highway, the rubber-band effect that CVTs are known for shows up. The revs climb first, while the speed follows later.

The Superb features as a completely different oil burner. A 2.0-liter TDI making 360Nm of torque (significantly higher), paired with a 7-speed DSG, should provide the push and driving joy that enthusiasts are mostly after, especially in the mid-RPM range. Press the throttle, and all that torque should show up and immediately reflect in the speedometer. Even otherwise, diesel engines are much more responsive to throttle inputs.

What we genuinely don’t know yet is fuel economy, especially for the Indian variant. Globally, the number is 20.8 km/l, but with a light foot, the car could deliver higher fuel economy.

Toyota’s cabin, as we know it today, relies on many physical switches for climate and volume. The 12.3-inch screens (one for infotainment and one for the instrument cluster) are there, along with a head-up display that shows basic driving details without taking your eyes off the road. Then there’s the 9-speaker JBL system, which has garnered a lot of appreciation for its clarity and overall sound quality.

The Superb goes the other way. It features a bigger 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 14-speaker Canton system (five more speakers than the Camry), Matrix LED headlights that actively shape their projection or beam around oncoming traffic, and adaptive dampers as part of Skoda’s Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system.

Toyota Camry Hybrid vs. Skoda Superb: Conclusion

Here’s some honesty at the end: we don’t know how much the Skoda Superb will cost in India. Industry estimates for the new car sit around ₹55-60 lakh (ex-showroom). If it launches meaningfully above ₹54.69 lakh, where the current Camry Hybrid sits, it could be an attempt to position the Superb as a premium option.

That gap matters. At its current price, the Camry sits in a strange vacuum-like segment between mainstream sedans and the cheapest German luxury options. If the Superb lands above ₹55 lakh, it’s no longer really fighting the Camry on price but the value proposition with a completely different pitch that includes more space, sharper handling, and a lot more screen real estate.
